Maybe try .......
Removing the whole lower panel ,which includes lifting the black panel over the steering wheel , then unclip the ring around ignition switch There are two screws either side of the large panel one under the bonnet/ fuel cap lever the other near the g/box tunnel , pull the whole thing forward from the bottom , you'll then find that it'll be caught by the trim by the door but just give it a tug it'll drop down ..... you'll have access to panel in question .... its easier than it sounds
The mirror switch quadrant of the panel looks like it would clip out with fingernails or a trim tool, from there you could feel around to see what kind of fixings/clips the rest of the panel has.
Easiest way is to undo the bolt beside the fuel open, pop the cables off for the fuel open and bonnet release and then pop the two clips along the bottom of the trim (above the pedals). The whole grey section comes out (careful of the bit on the right side under the rubber) giving you easy access. It's easy once you've done it once.
