I'm really struggling to find somewhere to do work on my 120 which is reasonably close to home. The work needed isn't overly onerous and I already have all of the parts (genuine Toyota parts).

I've had West Coast recommended to me (not that close to me but comes highly recommended), however, through my comms with them so far I'm very much less than impressed. They were very late in responding to an email from me and didn't bother returning my phone call at all (after speaking to someone there and leaving details of what work I want done). Then, having spoken to them today, they are VERY wishy washy with responses and VERY non-committal about doing the work.

Any other recommendations would be gratefully received.

The work needed is:
  • Replace 2 x engine mounts
  • Replace water pump and belt
  • Replace cam belt, pulley and tensioner
  • Replace front discs and pads
  • Carry out pressure test on coolant system for suspected (minor) coolant leak somewhere to the front of the engine (coolant residue on hose(s) between rad and engine.
  • Carry out repair/replacement relating to suspected coolant leak (if applicable) - N.B. I don't have any parts for this if needed but the repair can be done at a later date should diagnosis find the source.
  • General steering and chassis component health check (wheel bearings, ball joints, shocks, etc.) as I'm overlanding the car.
The car isn't corroded, bolts and fixings come off all ok.

As I said, anyone know of anyone willing to do this. Hell, I'm even willing to help if it's an amateur/semi-amateur job.

I really don't want to rely on MrT for this.

I feel for ya mate. wish I could help.I don't know about the rest of the country but its getting to be a bit of a trend with garages that cant be bothered .I needed a job doing on my Hi lux.. the garage/garages never responded/ got back to me.ended up doing it myself costing time I don't have..Round our way they do pick and choose ... Good luck anyways

Surely there is a garage in Wrexham that could do these jobs AM?
the 120 isn't old school truck like. so any half decent mechanic should be familiar with the tech.

I agree with CG here, look for an independent Toyota specialist in the area, you don't need a 4x4 or a land cruiser specialist to do any of those.

The timing belt and pump, the brakes work you mentioned are all very simple on this truck. if you are willing to help, maybe consider doing this yourself?

The engine mounts I don't know about....

If your going to overland it I'd suggest doingas much yourself as possible, that way you get familiar with it and may get you out of trouble on a trip. Pressure test and engine mounts possibly the only 2 to get professional help with.

I contacted West Coast a while back about replacing a corroded fuel filler neck on my 200, but they were too busy to fit the job in. I prefer to give business to independent family-owned businesses wherever possible but as they couldn't fit it in, I booked into my local Toyota dealership instead who replaced it at reasonable cost and minimum fuss. I expect that West Coast are busy modifying vehicles for high adventure rather than the unglamorous world of repairing them, which is fair enough if that's what they prefer and there's business doing it. I've spoken with Paul there in the past to discuss potential suspension and wheel upgrades and found him to be enthusiastic and helpful.
