Those of you that are members of IH8mud in the US will probably have heard of their premier 100 focused annual jamboree in Colorado. This event books out in seconds, literally, but I was quick enough on the keyboard to get first reserve spot (and there was a computer failure which caused some bookings to duplicate).

Essentially, 50 trucks, free prize draw from the sponsors, 3 days 'wheeling' and evening festivities around the camp fires.

News soon spread that there were some 'Brits' in attendance who had driven half way round the world to get to the event. We were made extremely welcome and were asked countless times about our trip and also about our truck. Diesel powered vehicles is one of the most sought after requirements for off-roaders in the US (as there is very little choice domestically), so having a 4.2D in the flock was always going to be a talking point.

The organisers had planned a number of different trails from our base in Silverton Colorado and it was just a simple matter just to state which you wished to do. As a family event there were low technical and high grade 5 trails. At over 3000 kg in overland guise we elected to stay away from the ultra-technical and maxxed out at grade 3 and 4 trails over Imogene, Black Bear and Engineer passes

The organisers are planning to expend the event for 2017 such is the demand.

Below are some photos. There are 3 short videos in my post on Hedgehog in North America trip report too.

Black Bear is notorious, not as a very technical trail, but for a few parts of this Grade 4 narrow shelf road which are off camber, stepped and with 1000ft drop offs. Pucker up!
