Injector leaking

Book time to remove sump pan is 9.2 hours.

Perhaps tape some nylon tube on a hoover and poke it through the hole and hoover the strainer clean?

This morning I have been to the dealership to ask them, one, to supply and fit the missing plastic bash plate and for that they have quoted me £172 plus labour plus vat.
I secondly asked them to remove, clean and refit the oil pickup strainer and quoted me 8hrs labour at £89.50 so £716 plus vat.
When I question why it would take so long I was told in the words of the "chief engineer" as he was described "it is virtually an engine out job to get to the strainer". I he also told me this was the time allowace reccomended by Toyota for the work.
Somehow I sort of imagined it was a fairly simple job,was I mistaken?
I did tell them to stuff their prices and I will get it done somewhere else. Will I be eating my words?
Hi
either they are bullshiting you or they are not familiar with your type of car , after draining the oil it is less than one hour job to remove the sump and that is if a novice like you doing it . There are two sumps on our engine lower and upper , all that is needed is to take off the lower small sump 13 small bolts to be undone evenly a slight tap with a rubber mallet or a hammer with a rag round it , take off the two small nuts that hold the strainer and remove , clean the strainer and bolt it back on , now clean the sump face that mates with the upper sump and same with the face of the upper sump make sure the two surface of both sumps are clear of the silicone gasket that is used to mate both sumps , re silicone the small sump in a bead like was fitted by the factory , start from one side and put the bolts back diagonally tighten them gradually evenly fairly fast so the silicone does not dry up before your done , and its obvious you have to drop the oil first but leave oil filter in place , to be honest its very easy to do , If you are not confident to do it any garage can do it for you cheaply just explain there is two sumps on your car and you want the lower one removing aso to the clean the oil strainer . I can send you pics and institutions via Talaman if you want as I don't know how to put pics on this site but I have Talamam (Geoff) on whats app and I can send them to him and he can send them to you or give me your number and I can whats app you the pics and info . For me its easier to do the job on your car than send pic on here . If sump does not come off with a tap of a mallit use a thin blade in between the two sumps to help it unstick .
regards Tony

Hi again Tony,If its good with you I will start a chat under the "conversation" section on here and send you my number.Having done the pick inspection myself I quite like the idea of doing the removal and clean myself so and detail and pictures would be great, cheers Matthew

Hi Matthew
I have just looked on www.pradopoint.com its a forum like this based in Australia if you go on there scroll down to the lc 120 and then scroll down to engine diesel (120 series) click on that then go to page 3 by clicking at the bottom of each page and 11 place on that page is the step by step instructions and pics done by a specialist on our cars with lots of questions and answers even better than I can give you but if you still want my number I will give it to you .

@Crispin did this himself when he had a 120 and it did not take 8hrs. You should be able to find a thread on here about it.

I have 3 torque wrenches and I must say I have very very rarely used them, I have a knack of knowing what pressure to put on when I read the torque settings but if I was doing a cylinder head or something that needs to be exact I would use a torque wrench , I always revert to foot pounds from nm as I know how much pressure to put when in pounds as I am 58 years old I stuck in the old figures and 9 nm for the lower sump reverts to 7 foot pounds so I just put that much pressure that I think to lift 7 pounds with a tiny bit more for good measure , but 7 fp tells you that too much of pressure will strip the bolt . the engine drain plug is 25 foot pounds , One important thing to get is a haynes manual on your car .
