Introducing Lilly Bird

Well done KB, well pleased for you. Will we see it at Lincombe?

Thanks Andy, unfortunately wont make it for lincombe, we will be in scotland the same weekend. I am sure we will be at one of the meets later in the year.

Regards,

Nice looking truck. Going to be an excellent vehicle for over landing in. It's pretty much the same truck as ours and looks almost exactly the same as ours did before we converted it (teary eyed reminising...)

Why Lilly Bird?

N

Fantastic. Look forward to feedback and tips for when I start thinking through and doing mod's.

Lilly Bird... its what the kids decided to call it :)

Regards

Took it down to freedom4x4 yesterday to have a detailed checkup. Looks to be in a good condition throughout, apart from the steering pump has ( or had recently ) a drip. The good thing is that the oil blowback from there means the entire front underside is in mint condition, original factory paint etc all intact! Silver lining.....

Congrats GOK. Looks good. I am sure you will have many great trips in that LC.

Nice purchase KB. It looks pretty good underneath. I wonder why they have the 12 valve engine? Must have been what was required I suppose.

No it wasn't .........But I did find it amusing. I think they made the right decision naming the ship, but I'm glad they kept a bit of the 'Boaty' in there.
Sorry for the hi-jack

Took Lilly Bird out for another stretch of legs this weekend, did about 400 miles round trip. Am starting to get used to the 1st gear :)

Just by a rough estimate the boot space in here is about 30% more than what we have in the 120, the kids will have no problems filling it all up though.

lots of the nooks and crannies have this thick blackish greasy thing on there. Almost as if someone's taken a really really dirty mop and wiped it all down leaving streaks around. Turns out thats the anti-rust oil coating that the PO's been doing over the years.

Have also started getting together a list of things to do.

regards,

What's with the first gear?
Glad it's all in good nick!

Its pretty low ratio'd, so just need to give folks on a roundabout a few more seconds :) 'cause we are not getting out in a rush to squeeze past anything.

Have you tried using second instead? Or does it need an Italian tune up (granted it is non turbo'd of course).

New tyre's went on today. Settledon the ko2's. Purely based on sidewall and genral handling characteristics. I have yokohama geolanders on the 120, and have been very happy with how they perform - specially in the wet, but for the heavier weight of the 105, the ko2 seems like a better choice. Even though it's rated at a notch lower on fuel efficiency!

Thought long and hard about going wider. But in the end decided to stay 235 - it's going to be good enough for almost everything we are planning on, and as @dyladams pointed out, staying narrowtrack has its benefits.

So, LT235/85r16. Running in at 2.4 bar. Huge improvement in ride quality over the General Ameritrack TR tyres!

Going to let these bed in for a 100 miles or so and then try it at 2.6

Retained one of the TRs as the spare.

Regards,

I'm a bit late to the party - that's a nice truck you've got there. Look forward to seeing how you progress with it and your travels.
