My last trooper the turbo failed on it, not a problem i bolted a new one on, thought I'll fire it up and check for leaks etc, I'll leave the Airbox off so can see better. Runs fine no leaks I'll just give it a rev......s#*t what the hell was that noise and sounds like the turbo just let go.

The oily gloves I took off to lean in and start the engine, the ones I put in the engine bay got sucked into the turbo!! One new turbo dead!!
Sure you can imagine the language.

Another vote for Turbo Technics btw if you go down the rebuild route.

I am Andy oh yes. BUT NEED BRAKES FIRST !! theres always something more desparate for the funds than a Turbo but one day...

Whats wrong with your brakes Ben?
Will 80 series front hubs fit the 60 series stub axles?
If they will it should be an easy conversion, possibly.

Oops, sorry thread Hijack

Grant - Ive only just seen this - see my Dodgy oil post.

I cant recommend the RockWatt Turbo enough - 28psi if you want it, boost from 900rpm - Ive just turned the fuel pump up one notch and its flying now.

Thats some darn bad luck there Grant so sorry to hear. Hopefully you get a cost effective fix sooner than later.

That is good to hear Roger. I can almost see the grin on your face from here!

I am leaning more towards the GTurbo option currently though. I'm not sure that my current turbo is salvageable given what I've done to it. So if I had to buy a second hand turbo to then upgrade it the GTurbo at £1450 is only a few hundred pounds more and the turn around time is a lot quicker.

Just Worn out Julian. So new upgraded calipers pads discs and pipes on order. Stoppend started to need plenty of anticipation!!
Might need to watch some vids on line to see if anything else is needed before I attempt it
Sorry for the hijack

No problems re thread jacks guys.

@Gary820 - Makes me feel a bit better that the pros are doing daft things too :)

@Tommy345 See this post

Nothing too special yet, namely strip down and re-assemble, fuel pump serviced and Kevlar Clutch. Carge cooler to follow.

If you want to upgrade to a hybrid turbo, you may want to check these guys out:

http://www.wink4x4.com/

They are in the Netherlands and developed a hybrid turbo from scratch much like the Gturbo, but at a way better price since it does not have to come from down under. I think it was around 1400 eur / 1240 £.

Also found these guys in Aus:

They have good prices for the billet high flow turbo, but I think shippingcosts and importduties etc will kill it ...

Thanks for the additional options. Still mulling over the best solution.

Julian really does frustrate me - I spoke to him last week where he very helpful with advice (as always) and said to email him once I decided a way forward. So I emailed him what I would like to do which on top of the turbo involved at least £5k of more work. Three days later still no response.

So I've emailed west coast off road now to see what the response from there is.

Judging by this post from OC it seems I was quite lucky.

I recently rebuilt the turbo on my Previa with one of those balanced cartridges off ebay complete with the gasket kit and balancing data as well you can see where material was removed for balancing. There really is so little to a turbo I fail to see the cost in replacement units. Yes it is a pain to remove but a rattle gun will let go most exhaust fittings. changing the cartridge took about 30min but left the housing soaking in petrol overnight to clean it.
