hi There,

I just got my first land cruiser...lovely.. it seemed unloved...in the driving sense! I'm very much a newbie. I just wanted to know whether fuel additives such as forte would assist with the overall performance?

many thanks,

Sunil

Hi Sunil nice find , i guess its a 2.4 litre engine which is often said to be under powered so maybe all is as it should be .

Fuel additives don't add power instead they help clean out your fuel system which can make a difference power wise . Some believe and some don't but personally having read about the changes in fuel processing and its diminishing quality over the past decade and its effect on older engines i chuck a bottle of Wynn's diesel gold in the tank every 6 months or so for maintenance purposes .

Hi Shayne,

many thanks for the help..much appreciated. it is slightly underpowered...but then again I normally drive around in a 180PS transporter with DSG...but the Toyota is a more humble drive!

if you have no history for the car try to change oils and filters.
install a transparent hose between fuel filter and engine and see if you get air. fuel tank pipes can get corroded .

fuel gauge has a small mechanical device that lowers the voltage from 12 to ~7 for the temperature meter. that gets temperature spikes sometimes (normally both fuel and temp hike up)and its not a nice sight to see the temp needle going into red zone.

then….check radiator (mine went to a specialist shop, they recore it after they said it had poor efficiency), check fan clutch, which might have silicone oil missing inside and check thermostat.

ultimately, drive it carefully and have fun!

ps oh God, do change those tires ! had the same ones , one nearly exploded on the highway in France.they are stiff rubber by now and just awful, they are a genuine danger.

Hi Alexy,

Which size tyre size do you recommend? A friend of my strongly suggested BFG all terrain however not sure with the actual size. Getting differing view.

Thanks

Nice truck. Have a soft spot for 70 series. Reminds me of my first one. It was a white one. E97 GVW. Often wondered what became of it. Maybe someone on here knows
