Weelllll, seems the car was quite satisfied with this season already, seeing as it flatlined last Sunday..

So now im looking around for a pacemaker until i can get a replacement heart bought..

Shit happens!

Not so much a Suzuki at this point tho.. Vw 1.9Td engine, Lj70 axles, Torsen rear and LSD front, strenghtened chassis, cage, and only half a body, so i call it the Suzuki and a Half :p

Clutch wire failure on the zook while out wheeling, one bushfix later and it worked flawlessly again for the remaining 3 hours!

Dirty work but need to be done, wirebrushing the chassis before i start mounting the engine/ start fiddling with the suspension, that way it'll be less messy when i get started..

Progress!

Most of the frame is wirebrushed and primed, also got the motor into the frame loosely where it will be, It will have to go back like 5-6cm in the pics though, crank belt disc is almost hitting the front chassis crossmember now

Will probably remove the chassis mounts and make new ones further back, also gonna have to fab up some new for the motor, then im probaby gonna join the two together using these bushes http://swedenfabrication.se/index.php?route=product/product&path=18&product_id=182

The oilpan has the deep part forward on these engines, which puts it directly above the front axle, looks like it'll work, but gonna lenghten the bumpstops, and also gonna move the axle forward about 10cm..

Thinking 3-link would be awesome for the front, either that or use the rear stock trailing arms and put them upsidedown on the axle, thus getting them in a more stock height giving me more travel downwards

Im thinking i'll be doing something like 270cm-ish for the wheelbase, stock is about 230cm if i remember correctly, so rear axle will also be moved, and for the rear im thinking triangulated 4-link to get rid of the panhard rod..

Update!

Smokingly fresh! Cut off the stock mounts and modified them for polybushes.. They are also moved back about 6cm.

Been a while!

Engine mounts all done, sourced a gearbox (722.3) with flywheel and converter for like £70! and new gearbox mount is done as of today! So next on the list will be transfer case when i get it back from the machine shop, then moving the rear axle and making new links, going triangulated 4-link in the rear to loose the panhard..

Sturdy! 12mm plate and 8mm steel!

New in using polybushes, also made some nice drainage holes for all the mud, since i've used a U-beam..

Im quite satisfied with it! Sits pretty much flush with the underside of the frame, except for the mount plates that got a little low, but there'll be some suspension mounts around that area i reckon, so it should be fine..

Just ordered 4 flexjoints for the rear from low range, and then some poly bushes aswell for the rear, and the transfer case..

Also, ideas for the tube size for the trailing arms, think somehwere along the lines of 40-45mm, 3-4mm in thickness, ideas on that?

Looking good.

Looking forward to seeing the triangulated 4 link rear, thinking of going that way myself at some point. :icon-twisted:

I'd have thought that size tube should be fine!

If you really want to make it strong, use seamless or even chromoly. :icon-cool:

Also thinking of reusing the rear stock trailing arms for the front and flipping them so the axle is beneath them = Arms sits higher and i get even more articulation outwards :icon-twisted:

Well, got some beefy tubes as i passed a metal shop on my way home today, 40x5mm seamless steel tubes i believe should take the abuse
Also painted the chassis this weekend, aswell as the steering box..

Finally got to pick up the transfer case yesterday!

That's gonna wait though, want to get the rear end done-ish first, so today i removed the rear axle and got it onto the bench for alot of grinding, welding, and rust brushing..

Welded stands to the chassis so i could remove the axle and keep the height..

No turning back now!

*Hosthostharkel*

Just spent the day getting all the old mounts off of the rear axle, such a pain in my rear, but has to get done..

And while getting the axle apart i found this little bugger inside the axle, yep, that is a bit of the crownwheel, so now i have 2 broken teeth, Hello 5,29:1 gears

Nice work!

I know how horrible cleaning axles up like that is!

Plasma cutter is really useful to chop everything off with but still lots of grinding. :shifty:

Be careful when you weld all the new brackets on that you dont put too much heat into one area of the axle because those things can bend quite easily when welding if not careful. :ugeek:

Yeah, been thinking about a plasma for some time but, eh, maybe sometime :p

Continued today to wirebrush the whole axle with the grinder

Then i stated building the (what do you call it in english, i believe the swedish word is truss?)

Didn't get much more done, but wanted to get some protection on the bare metal before closing the box up, so ended up coating the whole axle in Hammerite Silver..
