Been with them some time now, always polite always want your buisness and work hard to keep you as a customer, can always speak to them - not just when they want your money! Not modded or a powerhouse, just every day worker, 2.4td lj78 import, one other named driver buisness use, carrying own goods, Glass, protected and max no claims - £270.

Surely that means then that they were charging more than necessary in the first place?

Its a case of Highways saying we want £XXX but we're prepared to go to £XXX - 40% if we really really have too, but we'll make you work for it.

I would say this wouldn't I but we're here to work on your behalf to get you the best deal from the insurers. If you can give us the ammo in the form of quote proof we can negotiate the reduction in the rate for you.

The best deal requires more than one underwriter per policy type otherwise they do not have competition, within your business, to keep them honest and provide the customer with the best deal. An underwriter that has no competition doesn't sound like a good deal for a customer.

My personal profile and insurance history is the information that should be used to negotiate a good deal, better than that, the information should be reflected in the renewal premium price! I have far better things to be doing with my time than playing ping pong between insurance companies, trying to get a fair price, as Stu has said, if they can do a better price they should have started at the price and not wasted the customers time. As a customer I wouldn't use them when they reduce their premium to price match a competitor as a matter of principle, I have done this before and will do it again, enjoying the satisfaction of taking my business away from someone who gives the customer a run around.

One things for sure, Highways and Chris Knott have lost this policy/business.

When my renewal came around (not with CK by the way) they said if you can find a better deal come back to us. I said there and then if I find a better deal elsewhere I will take it. And I did.

Just renewed with AF again on the silver off roader at a disappointing £300. Mind, I did give CK a ring but theirs started at £320 with additional costs for each modification. The conversation didn't go much further than " £320 plus additional......."
AF again for me, I understand a modded truck will be dearer than standard one.

Just about to renew mine with HD at £200 FC. Their renewal notice came in at £268 but a quick call to advise them of much cheaper quotes and they dropped the £68. Includes courtesy car, legal expenses,windscreen cover, personal accident and newly added 'vandalism' cover, whatever that might be.

Hi, we did want to but we can't quote for your scenario. The issue is that you'll need business use to be covered for the voluntary work but you told us you also do green-laning. A green-laning policy doesn't allow business use and a standard car policy doesn't cover green-laning.

If you weren't also green-laning we could have covered you without issue.

See this is where I get confused. Green laning is not off road travel - they are regular roads, Byways Open to All Traffic - subject to regular laws (plus a few additional ones) so I don't get the bit about a standard car policy not allowing green-laning. Seems a bit ludicrous to me. So in effect you'll insure a fully kitted Land Cruiser but only if it never leaves the tar? That sort of defeats the purpose don't you think?
