So after 10 years of working away I gave up harping on about the importance of maintenance and making sure my wife dropped the cars off for Log Book Servicing.
I change the oil and filters every 5000ks.
On a recent trip I heard the rear brake indicators scraping so I bought new ones and figured while I’ve got the wheel off I might as well repack the bearings, but they were perfect and spotlessly clean.
I found out the front ones...not so good.
So rather than mess around I ordered everything from the swivel hubs to the locking hubs and gave the front end a pretty up. Won’t need to be too worried about this for a while.
So when she asked why I’m taking the cruiser to work, I told her the idler bearings on the front of the Triton engine are about to shit themselves, you can choose to book it in for a service and get them checked or drive it until one fails and assess the additional damage cost.
Then decide if you still think servicing is expensive.
Rear rotors and bearings are next. Then it’s time to upgrade the injectors, rebuild the turbo and whack on a HPD Intercooler

Looking good there. Looks like a lack/loss of bearing preload that’s allowed the bearings to rotate on the stub axle. What method did you use to set your preload?

I’m guessing you’re bang on.
Both nuts and the locking washer were loose on the good side so I’m assuming they were both the same.
Last bearing service was done at a dealer before I bought it.
Here’s the locking ring, clearly want bent either way.

So they didn’t lock the locking washer!!? Great! What wonderful service.
That’s almost as bad as one of the members on here that had a ball joint on the steering replaced (or such) and drove down the road when it promptly fell off and wrote the truck off.
