LJ70 Build Thread!

5500 on a lift kit  .....whats it made of .. platinum
is that for a full kit .. (bushes, panhard rod and all the lot)

no panhard rods, or front radios arms, no bloody instructions either.

the front radios arms and panhard rod are costing £1300!!

seems ridiculous to me, yes there nice and shiny and made of aircraft grade alloy titanium, and made in Italy, but £1300 for a pair of front arms!

each to there own though i guess.

need to fit the new front seats he got at Billing aswell, i hope there comfortable at £900 a pair!

made a bit more progress on my truck today.

first i cut and fixed a piece of 3" x 2" down each side of the rear boxes. this will give me something to fix the hinges to, but also step the lid out a bit so that when open they stay open without slamming shut.

P1000356.jpg

P1000357.jpg

i then cut some 3/4" MDF lids.

P1000358.jpg

P1000359.jpg

P1000360.jpg

need to get some hinges for the lids. im thinking of using piano hinge for strength.

so i started on the front centre console.

P1000361.jpg

P1000362.jpg

P1000363.jpg

i wanted it to incorporate my CB radio, but i also wanted it so that i can easily get to the wiring if i ever need to.

P1000366.jpg

P1000367.jpg

P1000368.jpg

P1000369.jpg

P1000370.jpg

P1000371.jpg

cut a piece of 3/4" MDF for the lid. this will be hinged up, to provide some storage. i just need to glue some foam to the lid, and then cover it with black vinyl fabric.

P1000373.jpg

P1000375.jpg

i then put my more aggressive 35"s back on.

P1000378.jpg

P1000379.jpg

still got plenty of space in the back, enough to get 3 x 35"s.

well i was only thinking tonight how they dont look big enough, but then they dont quite measure 35" even though it says 35 on the side of the tyre.

i also think they look far to thin and narrow after having my other wheels and tyres on.

should look better with all the fibre glass arches gone, but that wont be for a few weeks until the bodywork starts.

might buy some wheels with more off set, as the ones there on now (standard 80 wheels i think ?) dont seem to have much off set, there also really bloody heavy, compared to my weller's.

funny you should mention that mate, picked up 80litres of vegoil tonight. havnt bought any for a few months as was getting free diesel for a while, but thats now stopped so im back on the veg oil!

did a bit more work on mine tonight, but unfortunately no pics as didnt have my camera.
will get some tomorrow.
hopefully fitting my replacement alternator tomorrow if it arrives.

ben

You adjusted the caster angles or adjusted the trailing arms?

Wondered how your steering feels with all these mods.

Pete

no mate neither!

its only the 2" suspension lift which should be effecting it, but its not bad and is perfectly drivable.

i might fit some castor correction bushes when i strip it all down next month.

covered my new lift up arm rest with 2" foam and black vinyl material, and attached it with a piece if piano hinge.

got some fuel.

P1000389.jpg

attached the lids on my rear storage boxes.

P1000390.jpg

P1000391.jpg

P1000392.jpg

P1000393.jpg

my replacement alternator arrived, so i fitted it.

P1000394.jpg

P1000395.jpg

its working, but when the charging circuit regulator is earthed, which it normaly is as its bolted to the metal body, it started sparking and started burning out the cable.

fitted another one, and so long as its not touching the bodywork then the alternator is charging and working as it should with no warning lights.

so theres definitely still and electrical fault, but i hate car electrics and ive not been very impressed with any of the 3 auto electricians ive used in the past, even less so by the £50+ per hour they charge!

got my winch tray and bumper back from the powder coaters yesterday.

finish looks good, so i think i will be using them again for the rocksliders and rear bumper.

P1000397-1.jpg

P1000398.jpg

didnt have much time after work yesterday, but still managed to get the winch tray and winch fitted.

P1000399.jpg

P1000400.jpg

P1000401.jpg

bought some very thick cable yesterday and some connectors, so i can move my solenoids up higher in the engine bay. need to by some albright solenoids really.

P1000402.jpg

and my new big winch hook.

P1000403.jpg

bumper.

just hope it fits since ive modified it to lift it 2"s for the bodylift, hadnt bodylifted it before it went for powder coating so havnt been able to try it.

P1000404.jpg

P1000405.jpg

thursday was a very very long day.

started work at 6.45am as was working in Worcester, and the job had to be finished that day, finished work at 9pm, then spent the next 3 hours working on my truck, fitting the winch and wiring up the solenoids with the longer cables, fitting the winch hook, and then fitting the bumper. :)

If it's a 1HZ motor they're definately not that much new. Last year I heard £27k new from Footloose. I'd assumed it had the 1HZ, but at that money maybe it's the V8 turbo.

Nice flex on your truck there Ben
