Pete

I'm looking forward to Mike confirming what it is but while we're waiting, lets just compare the fronts of the escort & the fiesta...

Mk1 Escort has the indicator in the body - so no
Mk2 Escort has the wrong bonnet line - so no
Scimiter has double headlamps - so no
Mk1 Fiesta XR2 - could well be

:D :D

Thats what I like, someone who sticks to their guns.....

In the meantime, whilst waiting for Mike, whats that to the right of the silver fiesta.....

My bad

Is that right from the drivers seat? if so its a wheelie bin or a storage unit for Land Rover parts :D

No, right as you look at the photo, silver jap looking car.

Tend to recognise wheelie bins most of the time... :D

Pete

Well it was a Festa XR2 in the back ground.

But not an ordinary one can anyone guess why? Clue it has a link to all terrain vehicles

You crashed it in a ditch.....

Surely it wasnt 4wd?

I did put it on it's side once which was a little worrying..... But that's not the connection

C'mon Mike, we ought to leave Ben's thread alone...

Ah, what the hell... :p

Did you end up junking the CJ body & putting the XR2 shell on it or vice versa??? Was it the first XR2 in space??

:text-threadjacked:

bit of an update on my 70 rebuild.

firstly i bought a set of LJ78 radious and trailing arms in from home, and they are as i thought identical to my 70 ones, theyve also got bushes which are in much better condition than mine. so my plan is to use them for now until i get around to making new rose jointed arms.

ive been busy rust killing and under-sealing the underneath, which has been a messy horrible job. it has also been tricky trying to keep the dog out of all the lumps of black underseal that are now all over the workshop floor.

P1000084.jpg

rear axle is now all painted up, having had 2 coats of black.

P1000085.jpg

repair is now almost invisible.

P1000087.jpg

tonight i started work on the replacement rear trailing arms.
they were very dirty, so i took them outside and covered them in jizz!

P1000094.jpg

after then giving them a blast off with the pressure steam cleaner i used the angle grinder with wire brush attachment to remove all the rust.

P1000095.jpg

then gave them and the panhard rod a coat of black paint.

P1000097.jpg

i then did some waxoiling, so i first sat the tin in hot water for 40mins to soften it up, as per the instructions on the tin.

i got a good coat inside all the chassis cross members and the main legs of the chassis.
