my beloved lj70

Ben have you got any pics of where and how you put your sensor in?? Thanks

Hi, my dash shows exactly same place. When I cold start it, will rise bit above the picture level, then its a drop once termostat opens.
While pulling a trailer it went two thirds up, without touching red, but enough to freak me out.
I found that rad cap seal was old and stiff and I bought a new one here in Etiopia.
changing the temp sensor under the thermostat housing didnt change ghe reading, but manual suggests thats another temp sensor on the injection pump?
Not sure which one of the two brings the info on the dash.
hope this helps.

Ok thanks I'll have a look in to it I'm so used to it now reading so low that if reads higher mite make me worry over nothing... Lol

Hi Craig
It is the gauge that is designed to have a dead zone not the sender, Toyota apparently did not want to have people worry about seeing fluctuations on the temp gauge. The result is that by the time your gauge moves it is some times too late, I would highly recommend fitting an after market gauge and sender.

Sorry Craig, only just spotted this.

I just attached the temp sensor to one of the rear most bolts on the rocker cover, just in front of the bulkhead. The bolts go down into in the head, so I'm measuring the actual temp of the block.

I find with my after market gauge monitoring engine temp and the standard gauge monitoring coolant temp I've got a pretty good idea of how hot the engine is running.[emoji3]

I will try and get you some pics this week of my setup. [emoji106]

So during Xmas thought if sort out from axle as seal was leaking and I removed front prop and notice a lot of play in pinion flange
so I stripped axle and took diff out then I saw this

I've ordered new ring and pinion kit from just differentials Along with flange and crush tube eliminator from the states recommended by Paul at west coat 4x4 so all the parts should be here before Xmas hopefully so I can be out for our next outing!!!

All parts are cleaned now and axle tube has been washed and flushed through so just waiting now got new seals and bearing here so can install them now until diff parts arrive :icon-biggrin:

has or does any one no where all the pipes go to on my fuel tank as took off and some are blocked off and some are looped into eachother...... cheers Craig

Thanks mate and yes been fairly busy but working flat out more than anything so has been awhile since been on here

More refund going on front axle full rebuild including making badly corroded steering knuckles back to new but added bonus of never going rusty again,
Ground then back to get putting out, then sandblasted whole axle then had it all flame zinc sprayed then sanded the balls down so smooth then got them re zinc sprayed once got them back sanded them nice and smooth which them I polished them up with 2000 Emery paper.
New bearings seals calipers and discs.
With an added hint or colour haha

Now just waiting to do the back axle so should drive like rolls Royce

Also in need of new radiator ideally an ally one for kzj70… any one got one In the Uk and are they or have they been good quality??
Struggling to find one other than off eBay and from bloody China…. ‍♂️♂️

Hello Craig,

you've done a great work! :relaxed:

I have to change sooner or later my backing plates at my KZJ70, which are strongly corroded and these parts are also not available at the moment.
Where can i get such a rear disc conversion kit? How works this with the hand brake?

I will do the same with my also badly corroded steering knuckles (see picture after sandblasting). It's a very good idea to use zinc spray in a few layers to fill the pores.

Thanks for your support.
