New to this

It’s ok if you have permission but there’s not many areas. We have Salisbury Plain nearby which is a military training area. There’s some green lanes about and we have a club meet at Lincomb (search for this and you’ll find some photos) which is all off road and camping.
I should really try get over to the UK at some point a lot of my family are from London and I’ve always wanted to go over. I’m looking at getting an 80s series myself at this point as well

You should have plenty to choose from and being a member on here is a wise move before getting one. They’re getting on a bit now and although there are lots of good ones out there, there are some pretty neglected ones too, rust being the killer underneath. A known member’s truck is probably the best route or get somebody who knows them to look over one for/with you. Japanese imports are good and usually rust free (mine was) but are of course commanding good money.

Was it hard to get it complied when you imported yours?

It was already done by an import specialist. I bought it from a local dealer as I needed a vehicle quickly and it was the best I could find. I was hiring out bouncy castles at the time and needed a tow car for the weekend hires.

Oh ok I’ll have to let you know when I’m gonna get a LC if that’s ok with you

That’s great but it all depends on location. There’s plenty of good people on here that know cruisers (better than me) so someone close by is usually best. Of course I’ll help if/where I can when the time comes. Save well and get the best one you can afford. Mileage isn’t such an issue as long as it’s been well looked after.

Yeah I’ll have to stop spending all my money on Easter chocolates but I should be good

Good girl! You know it makes sense.

Speaking of which, I’ve got an Easter egg to buy someone, so I’d best be off. :shifty:

Lots of 80 series cruisers in Oz Jessica so keep an eye locally for one that looks like its been restored , if you can get the owners phone number and offer him a few quid to take a look at any truck you might buy an experienced eye might save you shed loads of money on buying the wrong one .

An 80 owner - not a "mechanic"

Where abouts are you located Jess? As Shayne says, your best bet is taking someone along that knows and loves cruisers, especially the model you want. Don’t be in a hurry either. Like the saying ‘you’ve gotta kiss a few frogs before you find your prince’ you’ve gotta look at a few cruisers to see what’s out there, good and bad.

My Australia trip highlights included driving from Adelaide to Sydney via kangaroo Island and Melbourne. Camper van. Then continued on up the coast to Sunshine Coast. In a AWD bag of nails. Playing in the blue mountains and a bit of bush whilst in route. 6 week trip flew by. The best bit by far was getting away from the crowds in the mountains.

Look for rust spots and a clean interior, most mechanical problems are easy and the cheapest to fix. Turn on all the knobs and switches, electrics are some time hard to fix
Be aware that there are cheaper hobbies than this, once you go down the rabbit hole and start overlanding, it is hard to go back . Good luck
