Hi everyone,
Richard is my name and I am the proud owner of a 2014 model 79 series dual cab GXL. As my Cruiser has just turned over 200,000 km's, I'm on the hunt for an update but confess the prices are frightening these days!
My chariot has many extras, most of which were installed by the previous owner and I value them all, but none more than the DIFF LOCK.

Whilst this might have 'die-hard' mud luggers shaking their heads with disapproval, I have found the Diff Lock feature so effective, I've never added a winch :screamcat:
In looking at more recent models of the 79 series, it appears the Diff Lock remains optional, not standard (This image is from a 2023 GXL).

Does anyone have an opinion on the later models and whether Diff Locks are less critical than in earlier models? Are they still available and does it still make good sense or are they superseded by features like hill descent?

Let me know what you think.

regards
Richard (79 series dual cab GXL)

Its all about personal preference .
In my view traction control is a wonderful thing if your hungry when you following one off road in a proper truck because you can stop for a BBQ without falling behind .

Mate admitted today he waited to watch me arrive on site which can only be accessed by a very steep 30ft mud climb , pissed him off that i didn't even change gear and it took him a few minutes to find the setting with which his new Defender would let him drive up .

Damn I'm sorry he got there before me :laughing-rolling:

I think it also really depends what you use the truck for. How often do you actually need those capabilities. Of course we always like to have these things for the what if scenarios.
