None Toyota engine/trans swap

I got the engine and box out today, pressure washed the chassis as it was full of mud ready for prepping for rust proofing and paint, think I will go semi gloss black chassis.
Fuel tank to yet remove,
Drained the front axle oil which was very silver looking ( no surprise there ) and started stripping the steering knuckles and hubs.
When I have both axles stripped I will remove them for cleaning and paint.
What’s your opinion on firewall colour, black or body colour? 90698C43-0322-42B9-9E45-74D624B25A01.jpeg36B60B4D-0942-4555-BA03-6FDAB0F908E7.jpeg254CC0E4-18A4-4B2D-98BA-85F2F95BDA19.jpeg

Took a few more part off, this has turned into a full overhaul DFBFA135-5518-461B-8F13-8D8B5EF9A00D.jpegtEE0CA902-EF9B-40FA-B152-CC26A657BECE.jpegABE56AF9-6C86-4218-8CD8-C5A5DE5D8212.jpeg

Hello again,
Not much to update as I have been busy with work and house renovation,
I have however bought an engine for the FJ, BMW M57 3 litre turbo diesel.
Not decided on the gearbox yet.
Cheers
Darran.

It looks like two brackets have been added so the bump stops touch the brackets not the axle, if the weren’t there I doubt the bump stops would ever bump the axle , this makes me think this axle is from another model Toyota?
Front axle end balls both have grooves where the seals have worn them over the years, think I can repair this though, also the front axle has drum brakes, chassis number Puts it at November 1982 would it have had front disc brakes originally?
Thanks
Darran

Hi 'Darran a 1982 should have front disc on it but you can got the bits of A HJ60 for the front disc it's not a bad job love the old 40s keep the pic comeing big up from Tony. Good look with it .

My bump stops on the rear axle are on raised brackets on the chassis. Can't comment on the front end because mine is modified.
Seals available from Euro4x4parts, megastore4x4.pt , local Toyota dealer or, possibly, Milners.

regards,

Rodger

Thanks Rodger,
I think I may cut the brackets off the axle as they look a little cobbled together then extend the bump stop mounting on the chassis .
Much appreciate the part supplier info

Darran.

Hello again,
Got a little further, I think I will have the chassis sand blasted.
Cheers.

Hi that is looking a good clean chassis it's coming on good job.

Hi,
The chassis is in very good condition with only the rear x member needing attention as it’s pulled out of shape by towing I would guess, chassis is away at the shot blaster.
I have the BMW engine now, still need a gearbox though,
I have a B series 3L engine and four speed gearbox if anyone is looking for one.
Regards
