hi all
I’m currently driving a Mitsubishi delica, that’s used for family camping trips and moderate off road trips.
As my kids are growing up/leaving I’ve decided I want a more capable and “normal” 4wd drive, that can be used for long term overland Australian travel.
Currently investigating a used troopy. Specifically I’m trying to find out how easy it is to retroactively fit 3 extra seats in the back, (as most variants have nothing in the back)

Hi Owyn,
Try to find a 76.
They have the extra seats and also 2 extra doors, which give much better access to the gear in the truck.

You'll need to get a mod plate of for the 3 seats in the back, if the compliance plate is a 3 seater or a 11 seater.

That'll be a visit to an RMS approved engineer and a wallet lightened by about $500 at a guess (it's fairly straight forward modification, and stuff is available sometimes with the 6 seats) on top of the seats etc.

What sort of age and budget are you looking at? Which engine do you want?

Thx. You’ve confirmed my suspicions. I think I’ll hold on till I find one registered with the seats I need. Not precious on engine type (other than diesel) ldeally also after bars/spare carriers/long range tank(s). Budget around $15-$20k.

$15-20k puts you in a 1HZ, but not quite a 1HD-T (they're still going for high 20s, and often more than a 1VD engined one)

Troopy's could come with factory twin tanks, so keep an eye out for twin fuel flaps on the same side.

Just need to work out how far you're willing to travel...

There's also a few Facebook groups that might be worth joining to see what is around.
