This evening my rear wiper started to slow down and after 2 or 3 very slow wipes it came to a stop. When I got home I tried to see if I could free it and the threaded spindle just sheared off (I didn't have to apply much force at all. So now the wiper arm is in the boot...
The nut is badly rusted, so corrosion has gotten down the spindle and seized rotating mechanism. This is despite the covers and rubbers being fully intact. Thinking that a breakers would be the best bet for a replacement. (Afraid of Mr.T!!) Age gets to the externals eventually I suppose.

Same thing happened to mine a couple of years ago at 18 years/165,000

Got a second hand unit from a breakers

Simple enough to fit although IIRC it was the usual awkwardness when working inside door panels. I struggled to get the wiper arm off the spindle and had to resort to a hacksaw. Sounds as though you found an easier way!

Sorted, got a second hand unit delivered to my door for €45 inc postage. Fitted in 20 min and working perfectly. Happy out, amazing how much you miss it.

Incidentally, the guy I got it from is a specialist Toyota 4x4 breaker has a serious amount of stuff for all models on the shelf, some new parts too.

Could you add his contact details please?
