I bought myself a Ring Automotive 12v LED reading light from off of the bay the other day & it came in this mornings post (I only paid £6 for it as it has a cracked lens).

Piccys

The wife sorted me out with a red sweetie wrapper from out of the kids collage box.

That I trapped between the lens & the back plate.

Then trimmed.

Red light really works well for map reading at night. I've also used a red filter on my head torch for looking at star charts at night.

Thing is that with the red filter fitted anything on the map that leans towards being printed in red disapears :!: Thats roads, byway & public rights of way marks, contours........

Not a huge problem as I've never requried off road night time map reading & this will be almost certainly for my passenger to navigate us to Lincomb for example using a giant AA map :D
