Sadly the passing of a true legend of automotive history, who hasn’t used one of his manuals?

he wrote his first when still at school, about an Austin 7 he built into a racer, then his first properly published work was published in 1966, based on a rebuild of a frogeye sprite he helped a friend with while on RAF national service.

It’s difficult to find much information about him, clearly a humble and unassuming man, as the owner of such a massive business he took a salary of only a little over £100000 a year.

he bequeathed his personal collection of 30 cars to the nation in his museum, which is a charitable trust.

he has inspired thousands, maybe millions, and left an immense legacy

RIP

Good post Andy, an unsung hero if you ask me.

I like many other 16 year olds dabbling with old cars, was weened on Haynes manuals.. I had quite a collection of them at one time, moons ago.

Rest in Pieces Mr Haynes, forgive me, I'm sure he wouldn't be offended by the pun...
