Romania - Clive's House and Excursions

Well the dam is quite impressive, and the tunnels. I’m told that as you cross the dam, there’s a right turn (at a junction where most folks go straight on) through a tunnel, and that road goes back along the lake-shore on the other side. It’s supposed to be very scenic and a bit naughty in places...
It’s an old maintenance track... I might try to explore it one day, you can see it in white on your map....
Check in your mirror Clive, you might see me (in spirit) right behind you!

Conscious that I’ve neglected this wonderful forum of late, a small update on the never ending work on the house and the still unfinished extension after starting it back in 2009

We now have a kitchen.

Yes, for those who have visited, the hovel and shambles of the old kitchen has been transformed, only 15 years after faithfully promising the wife a new one.

Work continues on the two back bedrooms where the original rooms are being extended into the extension, with en-suite bathrooms....

.... it seems to be never ending...

This is one of the two bedrooms being extended, they’re both in the same stage of progress.

The original room, but with the doorframe lifted to accommodate a slightly higher floor level to match the extension floor level... (why is it nobody builds what you ask them to build on the plans )... and the original ceiling wood freshly varnished...

This will be the bathroom, all the water and drainage points are installed along with waterproofing, so it’s just a matter of tiling and WC, washbasin and bath furniture installation... these rooms will have shower over bathtub so they’re slightly larger than the other 4 additional rooms downstairs.

This is the “connection“ between the original house and the extension, it will have decorative wooden paneling around the inner face of the opening... similar to the doorway opening into the bathroom (seen on the left side of the pic above) .... but bigger...

This is the ceiling of the extension part of the room, prepped with batons to mount the varnished T&G ceiling boars in the photo above...

The opening couldn’t be made bigger unfortunately, the original roof line is lower than the extension ceiling, and we had to maintain the vertical structural support timbers each side of the opening.

At least the floor is all one level now with new boards throughout, so there will be no step up to trip on when going to the bathroom in the night.

Not particularly exciting stuff, but it’s amazing how much has been done just to get to this stage....

Pressing on ....

Looks fantastic Clive, I'm sure Aura is thrilled with her new kitchen. Very sorry I'm unable to visit anymore.

Yeah Higgy, that’s the hope...
bloody COVID and the nonsense that goes with it

but fingers crossed ... :handgestures-finge:

Hey Clive i just seen this and well done mate it looks great

I put a new blind up in the bathroom

Wow, I wasn’t aware it was quite so unforgiving or demanding! Mind you if you’re in a truck that habitually breaks then I can see how it could be seen as a bit of a challenge.

(Wanted to put a smiley in here…… but they’re gone…so I didn’t!)

They’re still there Chas, but they hide in those three dots above... :icon-biggrin:

where it says "write your reply" just above it, 6th icon is 3 dots "more options"

OK, Thanks Nick, I see it now.
