Scott's VDJ79

They didn't ship it for me, that was my responsibility. Worth asking if they would do it though. I've heard of cruiser consoles, and another similar company but the name escapes me just now.

Because I can't leave anything alone, I decided that I wanted to change all of the locks etc, the reason being I only had one key, and the ignition barrel sometimes refused to accept the key which was very annoying. I spoke to my local Toyota dealership about getting it done but they were not interested. Yet again I set about doing some research and got myself a complete set of locks, keys, fuel caps and an immobiliser ECU.

As ever, nothing is straight forward. After fitting the new locks, ignition barrel and immobiliser ECU it wouldn't start. That's because the engine ECU did not recognise the new immobiliser ECU. I cranked up Techstream, but couldn't see how to make these two ECU's friends. Yet more intense research was done, and I discovered that you can reset the ECU by bridging two terminal on the OBDII socket with a paper clip, and following a little procedure. I was a bit unsure about doing this, but it was getting near tea time and I was hungry so went ahead with it. Half an hour later it had worked!

That same immobiliser trick worked on my 120 after Mr T (mis)diagnosed a faulty ECU and I put another one in!

When fitting the new speedo face I obviously made and arse of it, as it was very jittery and would sometimes jam in certain spots. I played around with it and tried to get it working but no, that wasn't to be. After some more research I found a genuine Toyota version that was calibrated in MPH and km/h, basically plug and play so I went for it. It's a complete speedo unit that you fit into the dash binnacle. Can you see any difference from the one posted above?

Thankfully it now works exactly as it should.
I can spot the difference, the one above hasn't got the door open light on, this one has.
