Well folks, it's been a long time coming!

I've been working on and off for a few weeks now on a new version of the platform and it's finally ready to go live. :)

At some point tomorrow morning (Monday) I will take the site down and start the upgrade. All being well, this should be about an hour or so. Worst case scenario? I wish you all well with COVID-19 and the coming months. :)

There is not much functionally different so everything should be where you left it.
The new version, amongst many other things, brings you the benefit of adding it to your phone as an "app". It makes is far easier to use on the phone.
It also enables a lot of new functionality which I shall explore in the coming weeks and months.

A sneak preview:

Looks like you've been cleaning and polishing it all - all very shiny.

Also like the new logo...

...and we're back.

Well, for the most part it all went ok.
  1. Back-end updated: Check
  2. New Images loaded: Check
  3. Look and feel updated: Check
  4. Worked just like the dev dry-run: Fail :(
  5. Functionality identical: TBC

For the most part, everything should be where you left it. There are some functional differences though. A lot of the old functionality is no longer supported in the same way so I need to find out how best to get that back.

I am still slowly massaging it into shape as I work out the new features so there might be some nuanced changes along the way.

Comments, feedback and how-do-I are welcome. Please reply to this thread.

Will you add the tab 'recent posts' ?
Yes, that should come back as soon as I work out how to get it done

I also noticed that viagra is on offer...:innocent:
Urm, adverts will come back as well and, urm, if you're seeing adverts for viagra and the-wrong-type-of-masks I can't help that. It's based on your browsing history

Very smart, I was wondering where the mobile "App" is?

Great job Crispin... Immediately solved the ongoing delay issue with using the site in the phone. Well done and stay safe

I’m an old Victor Meldrew these days and dislike change for the sake of change, but I suppose it’s inevitable in the IT world that updates have to be a regular occurrence ...

We’ll done anyway Cris, I’m sure it’s a nightmare come true in practice.
I‘m sure I can say we do appreciate all your back-room efforts to keep this forum on the rails:thumbup:

One observation, members avatars look fresher than they used to, it seems. :shifty:

Nice job fellas - lookin' good

Nice, keep up the good work. I'll buy you a beer (Corona??) when we are allowed back out again...

I've got a couple of things to finish to make that work but it'll work really well. I use another site in a similar fashion and really impressed how browsers have been able to look just like apps.

I know you do which is why I keep on top of it
It's a fact though, we do need to keep moving. The platform I was on was about to stop getting security updates. When that happens the data is at risk and, well, that puts me in an awkward position if it goes walkies.
Two main things though that I'll try keep:
  1. Add new features to keep moving foward
  2. Try keep some of the old but inevitably, things will move on; like the independent injection -> common rail

Fixed that for you. I do what I can to keep everyone youthful

I'm with you on the 'change for change sake' thingy but we'll get used to it, it looks 'all singing all dancing', the young'uns will like it as theres more buttons to explore and will keep them off the street for a while. :laughing-rolling:

Still can't find the phone 'App', it's prob staring me in the face. :character-oldtimer: But so far it's a big thumbs up from me :thumbup:

Edit, thanks Crispin for the update on the phone App, I'll keep an eye open, and look forward to it.

It looks very clean and smart but have we lost the country codes attached to the name/avatar?

I have found that useful particularly where members are looking for 40 parts and it avoids me suggesting places in Europe when they are in Australia. I just find it helpful.

Good job Crispin.

Rodger

Hi, very nice update and love the clean look, I've always been a fan of clean sites. One small suggestion, would it be possible to make a better distinction between unread and read topics, it might be my eyes but I find it a bit tricky to see topics that have new posts.

Will there be a 'Dark' option in the future? Seems to be in vogue at the mo :icon-biggrin:

Did we lose notification that we have been quoted or named in a thread ?

i just seen a tick on the bell (top right) coz your nagging at me again nick

Bring back the "Recent Posts" link and that'll do for me
Like the new red banners top and bottom and club logo. Looks like Toyota 3H4 :icon-biggrin:
