I took my longest trip in the FJ40 at the weekend to the Ohsoretro car show. It took 1 1/2 hours one way and 2 on the way back, and it was very loud.
I know these are old trucks, etc, but I'm keen to make it a bit quieter. Has anyone installed sound-deadening material in the engine bay? On firewall/bonnet? Or anywhere else?
thanks

Check Mr Landcruiser on YT..they've done it on numerous vehicles & sell it via their shop.

Done it a few times on a Land Rover and even my current 78-series.

You need a combination of deadening and proofing/insulation, make sure you get the resonances damped with butyl sound deadening and then use something like a closed cell mass loaded vinyl to kill higher frequency noise. If you have stock carpets put them back, but you may need to remove the standard backing.

Funny enough I am in the middle of writing a post for my Troopy build series on this very topic.
