Straight through exhaust

Got my exhaust sorted and is very modest considering.

Seriously tempted for this tho

As an aside (and sorry for thread hijack) - any recommendation for a UK exhaust supplier? Preferably a performance/straight through but may go with stock if necessary/easier. I notice Milner do what looks like a full system for just over £200...? i.e. https://www.milneroffroad.com/toyot...xhaust-0/hdj80-exhaust-pipe-kit-full-system-0

The system on ours was a bit of a botch anyway, and is now starting to get tired - suspect a few leaks in the system! Cheers.

Nothing more than a butterfly valve in the exhaust really. Developed and first used by Yamaha in the late 80's in their EXUP system (Exhaust Ultimate Power Valve) on their big 4 stroke road bikes and operated by an ECU controlled servo. I had a FZR1000 in '91 which had one. It meant they could fit an exhaust tuned for both low down and midrange grunt and top end power. The valve remains closed at low revs (providing some back pressure for good low end torque and low noise) and gradually opens as the revs climb until it's fully open at high revs providing unrestricted gas flow. Utterly pointless on a big old low revving diesel from a performance point of view but obviously would alter the exhaust note.IMO.

I had my SS system for the 80 made here....http://exhaustsuk.com/index.php

Made up while I waited. I needed a complete system from turbo back and an OE mild steel system was going to cost over £300 and these guys quoted me just over £500 for a 3” bore SS system guaranteed “for life”. They didn’t say who’s though!
I went for a side exit system and it’s well made but with hindsight I would’ve gone for a rear exit system for noise reasons.

My dad fitted a spring loaded flap that he could kick open before the silencer on the exhaust of his bike. I don't think it went any better but it did sound nice.

Am well aware that no power gains to be had. Am after the noise

My dad was the same. He bought the bike in the '30s (A Francis Barnett with a Villiers 2 stroke and lever gear change) when he travelled from Wareham to Bournemouth and back daily to do his apprenticeship at a firm called Motormax. He said the journey took just as long with the flap open, but it was more fun.

You could start a massive thread drift here ......
Yam FSIE with baffles cut to about an inch long at 16
At 17 it was GT250 with Allspeeds , KH250 with Expansions , RD350 LC with Swarbrick expansions and Stan Stephens full race engine , my local village was never quiet as all my mates had versions on a theme .
Then it was various Escorts with Twin 45's and single box systems for them , I had an SD1 Vitesse Rover with big bore exhaust followed by Manta 400 and TR7 V8 Rally cars .
We must have been a right pains but living on a farm meant we could race around tracks .

Feel so sorry for todays youth with only a hybrid or electric car to look forwards to

I had a mk1 golf 1600 black 1982 gti with an italian made 4 into 1 and no silencers! Loud with flames coming out of the tail pipe! It was brilliant lol! Still got the system just need to get another mk1!

I've had numerous sports bikes in the past, all big 4 strokes, and the first thing I usually changed was the end can/muffler, but grew out of it years ago. Ironically, doing so would usually loose you some power unless the jetting and intake systems were tuned to match. One thing that really appeals to me these days is how quiet many bike bikes are as you really appreciate it on a long run.

"Loud pipes save lives" as the saying goes. Joking apart... modern hybrid/electric vehicles are a bloody menace due to being so damn quiet - especially if you're out walking or cycling on country lanes....
