Too cool, or not ?

There have been several comments about the 80 diesel engines running too cool in this country. If this is the case then why didn't toyota fit a higher temperature thermostat? Would it be possible to fit one rather than use the rad blind?

Not sure they run too cool frank, i think rather they can handle a lot higher temps without overheating.

i pull the rad blind down once weather is regularly below freezing so it warms up quicker.

One of the first mods on my 70 was to fit a higher rated thermostat. That was 120,000 miles ago. Warms up quickly, whatever the weather and rarely needs the electric cooling fan.

Im after a webasto thermo top, but not exactly for the same reason.

What is an 80 stat temp then?

Opening temp 74-78 deg C.

Min 10mm lift at 90 deg C.
