V8 Diesel oil leaking out of intercooler hoses?

G'day guys,

I'm looking at buying a 2007 VDJ76 , I test drove the vehicle today and took the opportunity to put it up on the hoist at work and have a good look over it, the vehicle presents and drives perfectly but I noticed that there was a fair amount of oil sweating from the inter cooler hose where it attaches under the intercooler, it was then dripping down over time and pooling on top of the motor . I know these early models use/used a reasonable amount of oil and that it was through the intercooler that it was using the oil but what I saw seemed a little odd to me , I ran the motor and removed the oil cap and couldn't see any visible heavy breathing . Has anyone else seen anything similar , should I steer well clear ?

I think every turbocharged vehicle I've owned has done this including the 80 I have now owned for 12 years. I've since cured the leakage by smearing RTV sealant inside the pipe after a darn good clean up. If everything else checks out, personally I wouldn't be worried.

Agree!
I`d be more worried if the IC was bone dry.
Over time there can be a fair aount of oil caught in the IC itself.
I consider it good practice to dismantle & clean them overy now & then.

All based on use & condition, the amount of oil gathered differs.
