what are your long term plans for your 80?

Not really the lux I was referring to. It's m going to keep this one on the road as long as possible then when it's finally a clunker I'll strip it and build the blue one under the sheet

Are we supposed to say "what blue one" Chris?

You can Clive but what blue one?

I've had mine over 12 years now, the longest I've ever kept any vehicle, and currently have no plans to sell it. The old school repairability of the 80 is definitely a big plus but the bottom line is it's just a vehicle. If something comes along that tickles my fancy even more then the 80 will probably go but, then again, I'm not onto offroading (on 4 wheels) or over landing so I guess it's reputation in these fields are wasted on me. It'll probably legislation that'll bring about the demise of older vehicles like the 80 series. JMO

True, it is just a vehicle but ours is part of the family now and also has a lot of good memories. It used to take me and a bunch of mates on some great mountain biking weekends. Any paintballing days out etc the 3rd row would be put back in.. every holiday in the last 12 years has been with the cruiser!
Now it enters another stage of its life with the baby seat in the back.. little man loves it already.

Cant wait for his first camping trip..

no, you lot have changed my mind now, i wont be burried in it. Would be a waste.

Driving back from Wales last year my 8 year old pipes up from the back seat ... "Daaaaad" here's me expecting the usual I need a wee/I feel sick/Tanith is hitting me, but nope he comes up with a cracker.
"When you die can I have Brenda ?"
So that's that sorted I guess. I keep it alive until I'm not and then pass it on.

My son (11) also wants my 80s when he's older. Can't think of a better reason to keep on preserving them. That and the fact they are just awesome. Just don't think that there is anything else like them on the road or off it to this day. They deserve to be classed as modern classics. An iconic vehicle in every way. If I had the money and the room I'd have every engine /gearbox combination in every colour. Too much!!!!!?????

Yeah, he might be thinking for his first car..

His older brother isn't even interested, he's at that age (15) where anything to do with oldies is embarrassing. I remember it well
My dad always bought bangers and drive them to the end. I walked to school rather than the brush painted escort, the Viva or the orange Datsun 120y estate in orange.
I'll keep it though either way, the only other thing I really want is a huge 4x4 or 6x6 expedition truck and I'd still tow Brenda behind it on a trailer.

My old man had a 1947 Morris Commercial Cars (MCC) Parcels Van (PV) converted into a sort of dormobile, brush painted in two-tone green, how embarrassing was that!

Planning on keeping mine. Have some small rust spots but mostly good and waxoil'ed. Planning on having a proper shed to work on it next year (outside + tarp right now)
I may take the top off and convert to a AluCab + outfitted for overlanding (cabinets etc.) like mini campervan but will see how the next few yrs go before I made that decisions. RTT + awning works fine for the moment
300K petrol + lpg (80K on current engine)

I believe there must be more 80's per sq mile where I live in QLD than anywhere else in the world, lucky me :) and they look like they will go on for many years to come. You can buy good rust free examples, for between $8K to $15K, I am on the look out for a good low mileage (anything below 200K klm) 40th Anniversary 97/98, which I think will never really go down in value.

In Uyuni (Bolivia) for 45 minutes stop at crossroads I counted over 200 Landcruisers with 80% of them model 80s, then approx 10% 40 series, then rest combo on 60, 100, 120 series. This is on the edge of the largest Salt Flats in the world.
I'm sure I would have counted more (all part of ferrying tourists) if I stayed longer

It was the best part of year long PanAm trip : )
