I have always used genuine Toyota pink coolant in both my cruisers, and I know everyone here will state to use this.

However, under my circumstances, likely engine burning coolant, I don't want to spend €40 on 5L of Toyota coolant when I can get 5L in the motor factors for €15 when I'm going to be constantly topping it up now. The genuine Toyota 5L black can doesn't list the spec or any info of the coolant spec at all. It just says pink and not to dilute.

Does anyone know the spec / type, OAT, Glycol etc,,, or would anyone happen to know if VW G12/G13 suits a Toyota?

I have never given coolant much thought I just stuck with Toyota red because thats what Roughtrax sold when I was ordering other stuff .

But a recent thread on the subject had me do some thinking and googling . What is coolant anyway other than corrosion protection that doesn't boil or freeze as easy as water .

My main takeaway from that previous thread was "do not mix coolants" .

Next time I think I will flush it out with water and buy something like this MANNOL AF12+ ANTIFREEZE COOLANT RED CONCENTRATED LONGLIFE FLUID ALL SEASONS 20L - CMG Oils Direct - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]

And to be honest faced with your situation while it was flushed out and filled with only clean water I'd be very tempted to give Bars head gasket stop leak a chance , what have you got to lose :confusion-shrug:

For what it's worth I used the Halfords pink OAT long life stuff which is silicate free and contains ethylene glycol. I've used it for going on 10 years now without issues.
The 80 series owner's manual stipulates "ethylene glycol antifreeze, Toyota Long Life Coolant or equivalent."
As Shayne says above, the one thing to avoid is mixing different types, hence the importance of flushing the system.
In your position I'd go the cheap but compatible route, I don't believe there's anything special about the Toyota branded stuff.
