Wheels Refurbed

Is £450 to diamond cut again?

Im sure i paid just over £300 inc for 5 x wheels but that was for normal refurb and painted finish to avoid the corrosion again.

No that was powder coating . Diamond cut would be more, but I did not quote that.

One thing ive learnt about refurbed rims is to clean off the coating on the contact area between rim and hub. Other wise when the time comes to take them off, a length of 4x2 and a lump hammer will be involved. ..

If they have been powder coated I've generally gone round the contact part of the wheel to hub with a flap wheel to avoid having to forcibly force the wheel off. I also use copperslip around the area as well.
I had a mobile alloy wheel painter re furb the 120 wheels for £35 each, did a really good job, I'd had the tyres taken off as I was replacing them so that helped. With them only being painted and baked I didn't need to remove anything and they fitted on the hubs just nice.

Yeah I intent to put a bit of copperslip between the wheel and hub, learnt that lesson on the side of the road a few years ago. .

If the wheel specialist is the one in porters wood i was gonna take the beemer there. I decided i didnt love it that much as the cost of the refurb goes up as the wheel size goes up and it was too much for my liking so found somewhere cheaper. One of the wheeler dealer episodes Mike goes there and gets some done.

Where did you end up getting them done Nick? Anywhere local?

Place in park street behind the toyota garage. Where you were on about getting your exhaust. Herts wheels. Happy with the service, price and finish just.... they were the last ones who did up my wheel nuts...

Oh, i must add. The reason i wanted them refurbed was because none of the wheels would hold air very long..id have to pump them up every week. Since the refurb 3 out of 4 are fine..guess which one still goes down slowly

Cheers Nick - I'll see if I can hit two birds with one stone. :icon-wink::icon-wink:

Yup it's the one in Potters Wood.

£360 incl for 5 wheels from the Letchworth crew and they can do it in a day, drop the car off and pick up end of day, job done.

They will also fit the new tyres for free, so have ordered the GG AT3's from Oponeo £520 for 4....

Just need to book it in once I know I'll have the rubber

Thats more like it.

Glad to see it's not just me who has to pump my tyres up weekly...one drops from 40 -20 psi over 4 days.
A wheel Refurb has been on my to do list for five years!!!

When i first got it (8 years old) it was the front right that kept going down, the others were topped up with the rest of the 50p. Id notice it more because it woukd wonder towards the right when driving. Now they've been refurbed and its just one of the back ones it gets pumped up when i notice.... which can mean there's bugger all in there. Im not surprised in the slightest that tyre died, just annoying i couldn't undo the locking wheel nut. I had anither tyre in my garage which saved me spending another 200 quid!
