I have had 2 Gerber multi tools and a leatherman wave. Like may people, the leatherman was a gift that I have had for over 10 years and can not fault it!
However as an alternative, I might consider the SOG Paratool for the simple reason that the pliers can be used at a variety of angles. My father had one and believes it paid for it self with 6 months while travelling through Africa on business.
