Just did my aux fuse box using 16mm cable for pos and neg feeds from the battery into the vehicle, and my 500watt inverter uses 10mm because it's less than a metre from the supply battery. Don't forget to use suitable mega fuses or similar!!

It can depends on a few things, but the Inverter could draw about 50 amps, but the main thing how long a
length of cable are you using ?
If you are running say up to 1mts then 10mm sq will do, but the longer the length, the bigger cable you will need, so as a example, if you are running 5mts you will need nearer 40mmsq.

the idea was to get rid of all the extra wiring under the bonnet, and re-wire any auxiliary gear to a fuse box mounted at the rear of the rear seat.
so i was looking at 5m lengths for the positve and negative from the battery running under the car and comming up through the floor to the new fuse box at rear of the rear seat , which will have the inverter mounted next to it.
gary what size and sort of fuse did you use in your new fuse box wiring ?
this is the stuff i am fitting

That's the exact fuse box I added in (under the driver's seat) - I came in through the firewall. I split the positive feed from the 2nd fuse, so:
battery -> cable -> fuse -> cable -> fuse -> split cable -> fuse box
I used these fuses:
with a 125 amp fuse in it:
