Hi Guys and girls. i have recently bought an FJ40 and am looking for some advice. (actually lots of advice) im only a week in and am sort of regretting my purchase
I Purchased the car via HOGG AND SWAN and after the car had been dropped off (driven off of the trailer) and i went to fill it up the issues started.
I got the car back and left it parked over night. when i tried to start it in the morning it appeared that the battery was dead. after a quick look under the hood i found that the copper clamp that attaches to the neutral terminal had snapped. i have just bought a new one and it seems to have solved that problem but starting the engine is hit and miss.
I really wanted to be able to get into the car and for it to start. (I do realise that i have bought a 1975 car which has been restored but i do need some sort of reliability)
I live in Essex in Ingatestone, and wandered if you good people would know a reliable classic car mechanic that could guild me in the right direction ?

Regards
Andy H

If the connection was bad enough to prevent starting how well charged is your battery ?

Hi Shayne, thanks for the response. the Battery is fine and has held a full charge.
I just started it and it started 1st time i need to feel a bit more confident in it.
Thanks

Its a cruiser give it a good thrashing before you worry about fixing anything . Age takes its toll on all things but I'd have more faith in your truck getting me home than any of this modern computerized junk .

Hi Andy and welcome....

It takes a bit of time to gain that confidence but once you have you will go anywhere in your 40. Mine has been my DD for the last 15 years.

Is it just a general check over or do you have specific concerns? Obviously the battery connection was not a great start.

Do you where it was restored (country)?

Regards,

Rodger

Think a lot of us can relate to the odd bit of buyers remorse! Even “restored” cars need more fettling.
You will sort it one way or other, but take each step at a time …basic stuff to get the car going.
You may need to clean up the earthing points where the black cable ata he’s to the chassis/ motor etc to get the full benefit from starting.
Draining of the battery perhaps can be eliminated by removing fuses …with ignition off if you have a suspected battery drain you may see a tiny spark in fuse holder as you remove it….or get a cheap multi meter.

Hi Andy

Similar experience with a H&S vehicle. Did you get it resolved and find a good mechanic?
