Underbody protection-replacement sump guard/transmission/fuel tank guard etc. In doing the rust prevention work I discovered the original sump guard appears to be made from tin foil! I’m erring on the side of suspension with a 2” lift but as a newbie the choice and terminology is bewildering.

    Priorities

I’m thinking from an off-road/green lane perspective. I’ve got decent AT tyres. Was considering a snorkel but that can wait (although they look great too!) So for me its protection or suspension next.

    Priorities

I saw a post by the guys at WestCoast recently which suggested that the first 3 mods should be 1. Tyres 2. Suspension 3. Protection. What are your thoughts?

    Magnetic sump plug

Ordered oil & filter from Roughtrax for a routine change and decided to pick up a magnetic sump plug at the same time. Are these actually useful or more of a gimmick?

Think you’re good to go after 24hrs though it won’t be dry by then.

    Lanoguard

Just applied Lanoguard to my 150 today. I spent a lot of time knocking off and removing crusty flakes of rust first-filthy horrible job last week. However, I found two small areas on the rear spring mounts which required welding. Luckily found a local guy who came highly recommended to sort...

Chassis Rust Removal -- Recommended Tools for Awkward Areas?

Still at the planning/prep stage before I tackle mine…..So far I’ve got a die grinder with a variety of wire wheels and flap wheel attachments, and wire brushes. I’m erring towards using Jenolite after using the brushes/flap wheel and finishing up with Lanoguard. Its all adding up! I’ve got a...

    MAF and MAP cleaning

Next little job is to clean the MAF sensor. Also going to look at the MAP filter-will clean or replace depending on its condition. I can’t seem to find a definitive answer as to whether the MAP sensor itself should be cleaned?

    Factory Jack

Rather embarrassingly, I’ve just discovered I have no jack in my recently acquired 150! I believe it should have a bottle jack located in the passenger side cubby hole in the boot area? Any recommendations for an alternative or should I source an original of ebay or similar?

Fair enough-appreciate your advice. In which case I might wait till my summer holidays (I work as a school Teacher) when the weather is likely to be better and I’ve got more time.

Chassis Rust Removal -- Recommended Tools for Awkward Areas?

I’m going to attack the rust on mine in a month or so. In addition to some ramps for access and various brushes/wheels I’m planning on applying Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 and cavity wax before using Lanoguard. Does this look like a reasonable plan??

That makes sense, had a few hairy moments using the metal ones before! I’ll look out for some wider, plastic alternatives.

    Tyre size

An update. The day after ordering the Yokohamas on Black Circle, they emailed to say they were actually out of stock and offered me an Avon tyre as an alternative. I refused the Avon and requested Falken Wildpeak AT3 as an alternative, which they agreed to at the same, offer price of £480 for 4...

    Tyre size

They’re original but to correct my original post the size is 245/70/17. I’ve been assured that 265/65/17 will be fine…….I hope so because I’ve just ordered a set of Yokohama Geolander AT GO15. Black Circle had 15% off flash sale!

    Tyre size

I’m in the UK so no insurance issue. I’m just unsure of the sizing issues on stock rims.
  31. S

    Tyre size

Probably a dumb question……So I have standard 17” rims with 245/65/17 tyres which I want to change to Falken Wildpeak AT3WA’s. Will 265/65/17 be ok? What is the range of tyres which will fit standard 17” rims?

    120 Prices

Appreciate the advice. I’ve eliminated dozens in the last few months on MOT history-specifically persistent advisories and/or fails on rust/corrosion. Recently seen a few ‘09 120’s with low’ish milages at around £12-14K-obviously they might actually sell for less. Reckon you did well at that price.

Tax is £395 on this ‘09, not sure if its true of all? Was the injector seal/washer issue resolved by ‘09? I’ll do a bit of research on the import route, though it it adds another level of anxiety onto the whole car buying process!

Looking for a well maintained diesel automatic 120 in good condition, particularly with respect to rust/corrosion. Service history is a must. I don’t want one in the higher tax bracket. As there are very few/no 120's in a decent state now, consider one from warner climes/import, that could still be well cheaper than that ? Tbh I’m open to the import option but have no clue as to the procedure/admin of the process? I guess the other perspective is to source one from an...

    120 Prices

I tend to agree that its way over priced. It ticks lots of boxes and relatively close to me in Cheshire but I can’t imagine they would come close to the £10k its worth. Interestingly, the 09 120’s do seem to attract a premium. I’m aware they’re a lower tax bracket but is there anything else...
