Don’t specifically know about the 120 but in general:
When unlatched does it swing open easily?
Lubricant on hinge and latch may work wonders. Otherwise it may be a binding cable or internal grease writhing the cable turning to glue due to age. In that case some wd40 squirted down could free it up?
My 105 has the optional altitude compensation device fitted to the fuel pump. Not exactly genned up in it yet but perhaps it may be worth looking into?
That engine would be great in a 60! Assuming it could be installed mechanically with revised engine and gearbox mounts, exhaust mods and propshaft lengths etc, what is involved electrically? I’m suspecting various ecu’s would have to be transplanted?
The blind does a good job preventing silt and mud from blocking up the rad fins which is a bugger to clean out without removing the radiator completely
A new pair of front door outer weather strips for 100 series. These have the stainless steel beauty strips which are obviously too posh for the 105.
Free to anyone who wants them. Just postage to pay please.
All 4 front pads were worn down to the metal having passed a not 2000 miles ago so I’m thinking it’s the master. All 4 pistons freely returned to normal position when the new pads went in. So a new Master has been ordered. Import duty on this one no doubt!!
Ok, back from Scotland now and the new fuel filter housing has arrived ready to fit.
But had a new issue with brakes. Had sporadic normal pedal with occasional foot to floor moments and sporadic wheel juddering. Just 50 miles from home the low fluid light came in and 1 mile from home there was...
Is the dump pipe the best place for an EGT sensor? The piston temperature is the concern I believe so the dump pipe will have a relationship with piston temperature but quite a bit cooler.
So establishing the relationship is key to avoid any damage. How would you know what the offset is...
Sounds exciting David. Looking forward to how it progresses and the end result.
Agree with the doubt about the oil cooler in the return line, I would worry about the potential back pressure but have no experience to draw on. Lots of gauges would be a recommendation. Hopefully you won’t need a...
Thanks @frank rabbets that’s handy to know. I have a bypass pipe and new clips with me. Got to Lockerbie today no problems at all.
When the new filter cap / button assembly arrives I will remove the NRV and see how it goes.
Yes giving more throttle immediately gets past the surging. Pumping the button before a journey also gets rid of it but if left for a couple of weeks the surging starts to creep back in.
Thanks very much @Grimbo you have confirmed my suspicions. A new button / housing top has been ordered. If...
Personally I like the silver roof strips but not that easy to find in good condition. How about painting with them off then if you decide to collect a set then install when you have all the parts?
Great to see another 60 getting some love
Thanks @frank rabbets and @Grimbo What I’m finding is under any throttle fuel pressure is fine but at low revs steady throttle in any gear a sort of kangarooing as if there is fuel starvation. If I pump the primer before setting off this disappears but the primer which goes solid is then slack a...
Took the NRV off to test it and yes it is oriented correctly which is obvious now!
It is a small restriction in the line though reducing internal diameter from about 8.5 to 5mm. Is the valve necessary??
In preparation for our trip to Scotland next week, fitted a pair of new Bosch batteries:
Changed oil and filter. Changed gearbox and transfer box oil and next is the diff oils.
While looking at the fuel filter I noticed a non return valve installed:
Is the NRV the right way round though ??
Could be something electrical moving around and wires burning their insulation? Would have a good look under there and make sure all connections are tight. Not sure if you have a heater resistor under there too but would look at that if you have one. Also check fan motor for anything suspicious.
My 61 was auto 4 speed. I think it had a different radiator with integral oil cooler for the gearbox but a separate oil cooler can be found I’m sure if needed. It Had the 12HT engine - not sure what your engine is? Potentially any non standard set up may need props modifying?
I believe each tank has a sender that sends their readings by way of milliohms or something to a switch which then connects to the gauge. So it’s more likely the gauge isn’t working rather than both senders failing at the same time? Just my thoughts of course.
Some filters have an electrical connector on the bottom or side of the housing to detect when filter maintenance is required. This should be unplugged before screwing off the filter. If not the wires get twisted and can give false readings. Not sure if the 200 has this but worth checking the...
Hilux calliper's in mine too. Made a massive difference. No mods needed. Very easy. They will run very close to the inner wheel rim. Some aftermarket wheels may rub. But filing off a mm or two from each corner of the larger calliper's solves that
Just guessing but try to find the relevant earth connection and tighten it up or clean off any corrosion then tighten. Often with car electrics it’s the simple things that present very confusing problems
Hi Mike, that’s a lovely looking 61. Looking forward to seeing it progress and where you take it off-road.
Is it an automatic gear box? I see it has the PTO Winch and extended front bumper which is quite rare these days.
If wheels are aligned but steering wheel is off centre then it’s easy to remove the steering wheel centre nut and turn the wheel by a spline or two.
4WD light, it could be bulb. Does the 4WD engage? Do you have the vacuum mechanism of engagement?
Oil pressure gauge could be an electrical issue...
Looks like an HJ60 to me, does it have the 2H diesel engine?
I thought the FJ62 was the USA spec gasoline motor variant?
What does it say on the VIN plate on the firewall?
Ok so the black lamp holders are not compatible with the blue ones. So removed the lamp from the black one and installed it in the blue one with the green “condom”. Worked a treat. It turns out 3 of the 6 lamps had failed. Now to rebuild from this…
All I wanted to do was change a bulb for the heater control…..
Had to remove the two central heater vents, the whole centre dash including stereo then separate this ensemble into two halves then remove the back cover and wiring etc.
discovered that the ash tray had a lamp which is also U/S but...
