@AndycruiserguyLomas - quick (and possibly stupid) question - is the big bolt through the back mounts fully captive, or can you knock the long bolt out? Mine looks rusty as hell and I'm thinking it'll likely shear as soon as I attack it... Thanks again for the help, appreciated.

Probably Shane - I've not even attempted to undo the bolt yet, I doubt it's been undone since the car was built! Expecting things to shear off and swearing to commence, so ideally I want to get a replacement bush(es?) lined up before I start.

Sooo... managed to get the old girl up on a ramp today - wiggled everything with a pry bar and discovered that the rear near side body mount was toast. Packed it with lumps of rubber belt for now as a temporary measure (and to confirm that was the source of the bang). Drive home was bang-free...

Did he tip it on the side to make it easier to access the chassis?

Hard pass from me, reliability record is horrible, there are much better road cars out there and I can't see them standing up to any serious off road use.

So, the 80 Series started developing a bang from the back end when going over potholes. I got underneath with a pry bar and everything looked pretty tight except for the ARB bushes which were fooked, so I changed those out, pretty confident that I'd sorted it. Nope, no difference at all - still...

Bought an eBay special for the 80 series 4 years+ ago and still going well. I'm with Rob - I'd just give the Roughtrax one a go, personally...

Shame we aren't getting the new 70 series with the 2.8 Hilux motor in the UK - looks the business in the Aussie YouTube shorts I've seen...

Hi and welcome TBH I would stay away from anything made by French manufacturers and stick with Toyota, Nissan, Honda or Lexus for a DD if you care about reliability. Good luck :-)

Looks like a thick layer of filler over a previously treated old rust repair to me. Not a deal breaker by any means, but suggests there may be more filler in the body than you might like. Have you gone over it with a magnet? I'd be interested to understand if this has had a full respray at some...

I've bought a couple of vehicles like this - best if you can get the seller on a live video feed and ask questions, get them to focus on anything that you don't like the look of, open and close all the doors, drive it through the gears, etc, etc. Still a risk, but it helps with confidence.

Hi all, Was investigating a "clunk" under the back of the 80 series today (but that's another story, for another thread!), and noticed one of the rear brake lines was slightly damp. On investigation, yup - its brake fluid weeping. Looks like the clamp where the line is attached to the axle is...

Lord knows - the market is weird at the moment - but if its been done properly and was a full body-off restoration, what they're asking isn't mad money.

Hang on though... one of the under wheel arch pictures shows a slightly rusty chassis and completely different suspension to the body off pictures. So are the body off pictures actually the same truck? Seems a bit weird...

Just twigged this... the Overland show is being cancelled due to spiralling costs, but will be relaunched as a campervan show...not sure why this would be cheaper to run though!? Weird... Bad K in Germany still runs happily, so there is clearly market for this kind of thing. Ho hum...

Has anyone tried using the electric needle guns, or are they too aggressive??

That said, Andy, we've been running Pedders +2" on the 80 for 5 or 6 years now and been really happy with them - truck rides nicely and handles predictably. Can't comment on the standard ride height ones though.

Finding a decent bodyshop is a major bonus (and seems like a bit of a unicorn). The guys that did the bodywork and paint on our 80 did a decent enough job of the main bodywork, but made a mess of refitting the wiring (screwed up the headlights completely) and a few other annoying issues...

Fair comment TP - but so what? Driving in normal daylight with your lights on isn't likely to dazzle anyone. Hell, I drive around with my lights on half the time to make sure the old biddies around my way can see me (apparently a couple of tons of 4x4 is difficult to spot)... I always thought...

Sorry - late to the party, but I've been running a similar set up (Pedders +2) for several years and no issues with mysterious bangs or clunks at this stage.... Be interested to hear back when you've sorted the body mount, if that resolves things. Good luck :-)
