    Definitely not effective in mud!

    80 series headlamp washers

Can't you just delete them and the switch entirely? They're pretty much useless anyway...?

Bit of a strange one this.

Insurance likely gone up as its keyless and more expensive - seem to be many more thefts of keyless motors unfortunately...

Who is doing what maintenance today?

Personally I wouldn't be changing non-service parts unless you have a good reason - you'd just be changing a known, functioning item for a new, unproven one. Just my 2p...

Bit of a strange one this.

Or you can sleeve the terminal to fit the clamp - lots of batteries these days are supplied with smaller terminals and sleeves to oversize them, so they can fit different applications. Your local battery place will likely have sleeves (I've binned a couple off of batteries bought from Tanya mail...

Who is doing what maintenance today?

Still trying to get my head around 5000 mile oil changes - that would be about every 4-5 months for my Hilux LOL! AFAIK the MAF isn't expected to be a scheduled service item and should only need replacing if it has a problem. At 80 odd thousand miles I'd leave it well alone unless you think you...

    Toyota Dealer or local?

Comments as above - at that age of vehicle maintaining the Toyota history won't really impact the value anywhere, and I'd rather use a local garage that I trust.

Banging from the back end - continued!

@AndycruiserguyLomas - quick (and possibly stupid) question - is the big bolt through the back mounts fully captive, or can you knock the long bolt out? Mine looks rusty as hell and I'm thinking it'll likely shear as soon as I attack it... Thanks again for the help, appreciated.

Banging from the back end - continued!

Cheers Andy - just seeing if I can find an easy replacement locally, else I'll drop you a line tomorrow. Really appreciate the help :handgestures-salut:

Banging from the back end - continued!

Probably Shane - I've not even attempted to undo the bolt yet, I doubt it's been undone since the car was built! Expecting things to shear off and swearing to commence, so ideally I want to get a replacement bush(es?) lined up before I start.

Banging from the back end - continued!

Sooo... managed to get the old girl up on a ramp today - wiggled everything with a pry bar and discovered that the rear near side body mount was toast. Packed it with lumps of rubber belt for now as a temporary measure (and to confirm that was the source of the bang). Drive home was bang-free...

Bat21 - nope. TBH I haven't look at this again, got sidetracked with other projects - need to get into it.... Thanks guys.

    Defender

Hard pass from me, reliability record is horrible, there are much better road cars out there and I can't see them standing up to any serious off road use.

Nope, spare wheel carrier is removed completely.

Banging from the back end - continued!

Cheers Andy, I did vaguely recall you mentioning this at one time. Bit worried about what will be seized/rusted/fall off if I have to lift the body LOL!!! Just a thought... I can't find anything else loose whilst on the drive - guess it would be worth jacking her up on the chassis rails and let...

Banging from the back end - continued!

Cheers Shayne - pretty sure it's not the exhaust, sounds like suspension - but certainly worth a check, as these things can be a PITA to track down as you'll appreciate!

Banging from the back end - continued!

So, the 80 Series started developing a bang from the back end when going over potholes. I got underneath with a pry bar and everything looked pretty tight except for the ARB bushes which were fooked, so I changed those out, pretty confident that I'd sorted it. Nope, no difference at all - still...

    Moving to Europe soon.

Hi and welcome TBH I would stay away from anything made by French manufacturers and stick with Toyota, Nissan, Honda or Lexus for a DD if you care about reliability. Good luck :-)

    Interesting 60.

Agreed Hemi, glad he's kept it on the road - I was more thinking about what plod and/or the insurance companies would make of it, in the event of an accident! That said, I guess he has it MOT'd, so they must be okay with it....

Cheap MIG welders - worthwhile or no?

So, many years ago I did a welding course, then bought a cheap MIG, which I used to put floors, sills and the likes into a couple of old Minis. Then life and kids happened and I've not done any bodywork for a while... Fast forward 20-odd years and I now have a couple of vehicles needing some...

Should I trust this body repair

Looks like a thick layer of filler over a previously treated old rust repair to me. Not a deal breaker by any means, but suggests there may be more filler in the body than you might like. Have you gone over it with a magnet? I'd be interested to understand if this has had a full respray at some...

NOW PRICED TO SELL AT £13.5K-WITH NEARLY NEW SHORT ENGINE

Looks very tidy, same colour as ours before Jan got hold of it LOL! May be worthwhile posting pics of the underside, especially on this forum. Good luck with the sale :-)

    Buying on pictures?

I've bought a couple of vehicles like this - best if you can get the seller on a live video feed and ask questions, get them to focus on anything that you don't like the look of, open and close all the doors, drive it through the gears, etc, etc. Still a risk, but it helps with confidence.

    80 Series brake lines - pre-made?

Cheers Ciderman. I have done some brake lines a while back, also on a Mini and a Landy, but I borrowed the tool from a mate at the time. I wasn't sure if the 80 series fittings are different, but I guess I could buy the kit and give it a go... Ref getting from Amayama, or similar, I would have...

    80 Series brake lines - pre-made?

Hi all, Was investigating a "clunk" under the back of the 80 series today (but that's another story, for another thread!), and noticed one of the rear brake lines was slightly damp. On investigation, yup - its brake fluid weeping. Looks like the clamp where the line is attached to the axle is...

    Really?

Lord knows - the market is weird at the moment - but if its been done properly and was a full body-off restoration, what they're asking isn't mad money.
  39. D

    Really?

Possibly - but seems odd to include photos of the fully built up car before having the chassis off, if that's a major selling point? Seems weird to me, but maybe I'm just suspicious!
  40. D

    Really?

Hang on though... one of the under wheel arch pictures shows a slightly rusty chassis and completely different suspension to the body off pictures. So are the body off pictures actually the same truck? Seems a bit weird...
  41. D

    Really?

I don't know if I like that or not, Andy! Ambitious price, though...

Karl on here has been great for sourcing spares for our 80 when needed. Good bloke too!

Adventure & Overland Show - ENDING!

Just twigged this... the Overland show is being cancelled due to spiralling costs, but will be relaunched as a campervan show...not sure why this would be cheaper to run though!? Weird... Bad K in Germany still runs happily, so there is clearly market for this kind of thing. Ho hum...

    Milners or Pedders standard springs?

That said, Andy, we've been running Pedders +2" on the 80 for 5 or 6 years now and been really happy with them - truck rides nicely and handles predictably. Can't comment on the standard ride height ones though.

    Rust Repairs and Respray

Finding a decent bodyshop is a major bonus (and seems like a bit of a unicorn). The guys that did the bodywork and paint on our 80 did a decent enough job of the main bodywork, but made a mess of refitting the wiring (screwed up the headlights completely) and a few other annoying issues...

Hello and welcome. Love the 70 series trucks :-)

    Odd MOT argument today

Fair comment TP - but so what? Driving in normal daylight with your lights on isn't likely to dazzle anyone. Hell, I drive around with my lights on half the time to make sure the old biddies around my way can see me (apparently a couple of tons of 4x4 is difficult to spot)... I always thought...

Anyone else had issues with their Pedders 2" setup?

Sorry - late to the party, but I've been running a similar set up (Pedders +2) for several years and no issues with mysterious bangs or clunks at this stage.... Be interested to hear back when you've sorted the body mount, if that resolves things. Good luck :-)
