The Landy is loaded with tech - that no one will ever need. Just because you can, it doesn't mean you should. Wading depth water level report? Open a window and stick your head out.
Had a drive of the new defender and I'm shocked to report I liked it .
First and foremost because it feels like a 4x4 , interior manages to present as both spartan and smart and while I don't like automatics it was faultless . I can honestly say the only reason I'd never want one is the unrepairable electronics .
Seeing as the Ingenium engine is getting a reputation as the "explodium" engine I think maybe best steer clear.....
JLR had so much fun with the PSA derived V6 and it's ability to keep whole dealerships mechanics busy they decided to continue the theme with this engine and it's elastic timing chain ...
I've not driven one but I had a short ride as a passenger in a P525 a while back. A whole different level of performance in that thing but quite why you'd want that much in an "off road" 4x4 I'm not sure. Just go with similar engined RR for better road manners and comfort.
I recently bought a car privately from the manager of a large Midlands based JLR dealership. He said he would never ever recommend to friends or family to buy a LR because JLR corporate were entirely happy to produce attractive cars with low quality parts as after sales was so profitable. Reminds me of a saying I heard about IT systems once ….. ‘it doesn’t matter how much lipstick and hairspray you put on a pig. It’s always going to be a pig’
Hard pass from me, reliability record is horrible, there are much better road cars out there and I can't see them standing up to any serious off road use.
