Defender

Did he say 985million Acres of open public land to play with....... The UK is 60million ish,...... I like the idea of having 985mill to my self...

Can the UK disown the Defender these days . . . . . . Please ??

Just too much tech and not enough development time.

Bob.

Once again I'm simply speechless.

The Landy is loaded with tech - that no one will ever need. Just because you can, it doesn't mean you should. Wading depth water level report? Open a window and stick your head out.

Had a drive of the new defender and I'm shocked to report I liked it .

First and foremost because it feels like a 4x4 , interior manages to present as both spartan and smart and while I don't like automatics it was faultless . I can honestly say the only reason I'd never want one is the unrepairable electronics .

85 ECU's apparently, all working in"harmony". Yikes.

Terrifying , but 10 miles in a 120 bored me silly which i say only to emphasize "it feels like a 4x4"

Seeing as the Ingenium engine is getting a reputation as the "explodium" engine I think maybe best steer clear.....
JLR had so much fun with the PSA derived V6 and it's ability to keep whole dealerships mechanics busy they decided to continue the theme with this engine and it's elastic timing chain ...

I've not driven one but I had a short ride as a passenger in a P525 a while back. A whole different level of performance in that thing but quite why you'd want that much in an "off road" 4x4 I'm not sure. Just go with similar engined RR for better road manners and comfort.

I recently bought a car privately from the manager of a large Midlands based JLR dealership. He said he would never ever recommend to friends or family to buy a LR because JLR corporate were entirely happy to produce attractive cars with low quality parts as after sales was so profitable. Reminds me of a saying I heard about IT systems once ….. ‘it doesn’t matter how much lipstick and hairspray you put on a pig. It’s always going to be a pig’

Got to admit they are sexy cars. If my wife sat in one I'd be forced to keep it. But the anxiety from reliability, not sure I'd go well!

Hard pass from me, reliability record is horrible, there are much better road cars out there and I can't see them standing up to any serious off road use.

Owner of the one I was driving could buy a private jet plane fromhis companies petty cash tin .

I asked him if he's saving up for a proper 4x4 like mine .
