    Ikamper top tents

Thanks for this. Looks spot on and a fair size with plenty tie downs. Does it have a zip in ground sheet? My annex doesn't sit great but i think its ihe height of the cruiser messing it up.

    Ikamper top tents

Apparently my Ventura is rated for 70mph which on the Isle of Islay it felt like the cruiser was gonna topple but the tent held fine. Really really noisy though. Only trouble is the guy at Ventura is the worst I've ever has the misfortune to deal with and trek overland just double the price and...

    Ikamper top tents

Thanks for the reply. Well we experienced Scotland's best horizontal rain and winds two weeks ago on Islay and the ventura held up pretty good apart from a support bar snapping for the canopy across the ladders. Not really the tents fault as the wind picked up while I only had one leg slotted...

    Ikamper top tents

Cool cheers, did you need the extended ladder? Be interesting to hear how you get with the annex and how well it sits, my Ventura annex doesn't sit great on the ground and I think it's the height of the cruiser and lack of tie down points. Is it really 60 seconds to setup? Looks much less of a...

    Ikamper top tents

Hi folks, Anyone have any experience with ikamper skycamp rooftop tents? They're abit pricey but look excellent and very quick to setup. Bit more streamlined too. https://ikamper.uk.com/collections/shop Thinking of selling my 1.8m ventura tent and annex for one of these next year. Cheers Mike

Importing a VDJ79 Single cab to the UK

I was using lloyd latchford agents and insured through ageas but I was tight for time last year as I'd booked my flight to Southampton last minute to pick the car up. I wasn't keen staying with them as any changes you get charged double. This time I finally obtained insurance through NFU for 110...

    insurance on a import

So far it's been a week and a half and still no quote from NFU. Initial response when asking for a quote was they don't insure grey imports. Not impressed so far. The have till Monday and then I'm not chasing them again. They say it's been referred to their underwriters.

Thanks, i'll happily give em a go. Did you have to have an alarm fitted? As far as i can see these are fitted with an immobiliser and deadlocks.

    JDM 76 series factory security

Hi all, insurance time is looming again and I'm trying to figure out what security Toyota fitted as standard to the GRJ76k models. Anyone know what revision of immobiliser is fitted ? EIS 2 or 3 maybe. Thinking about adding to the security but not quite sure which way to go. I'm reluctant to...

Nice one good effort. At least 81977 isn't too expensive to replace. Megazip want about 29 US dollars.

Nearly new, its a 2015 but only had 4000 miles on the clock. Im not so sure what kind off mpg the V8 diesel gets.

Found a diagram for the light. I wanted to remove mine so I could clean the bodywork around it. Haven't attempted it yet though.

    Rear high mount brake light

Hi mate, I found mounting mine here was straight forward enough for running cables and tapping into the reverse light for power / auto screen switch. Viewing angle showing enough of what's going on and the edge of the bumper. Just got to remember about the spare wheel lol.

Ok cool. Another grease for the garage collection. I use moly for the birfields and Mobil shc220 lithium for the UJs.

How often to grease wheel bearings?

Cheers for the maintenance manual link. It's something I'm still trying to find for a grj76k but I guess a VDJ76 manual would cover 90% of it. Not sure how different the newer ones are from the original 70 models apart from the engines and front axle width.

How often to grease wheel bearings?

Cheers, just road use usually 12k a year. It's kinda why I've left it for now because it's a good bit of work regreasing every bearing then trying to setup the free play. I'll need to buy one of those 54mm sockets as well lol.

How often to grease wheel bearings?

Hi mate, yeah we were up at the castle Fraser steam fair for the day. I've been following this schedule I found online. It says to re grease them every 12 months or 12k miles which I thought was abit OTT for normal road use. I downloaded an text capture app and translated some of the book but it...

Hi guys, How often do you guys repack your wheel bearings with grease? Mine is 4 years old with 15000 miles and I don't think they've been touched. Last service when swapping round the wheels I checked for play, noises etc and all good. I'm planning to get into them in September when it's next...

    100 series smash A42

Passed some poor sod today just outside Burton upon trent. Cruiser with trailer collided with the back of a new shape civic. Importing a VDJ79 Single cab to the UK

Hi Scott, I was like you beginning of last year trying to find a double cab 79 series to import into the country. Found them for sale in Japan but only to be advised they would be difficult to get through the IVA test so I went with 76 wagon and can highly recommend the 4 litre V6 petrol...

    insurance on a import

I used Lloyd Latchford for my import cruiser and they were reasonable despite being an agent. They are still happy with the winch bumper and roof rack declared. Renewals coming up in August so I'll see how much they try and take the p#ss.

    Ventura rooftop tents

Finally received everything I wanted in terms of rooftop tent and annex. It's only taken since February. Yeah that's for the winch lever that should be in the toyota bag with the controller. The small hole to the left is one of a pair for mounting spot lamps , led bars etc.

Not sure, is it the cutout in the winch pic I posted? If so that's for the winch clutch handle.

No worries. Yeah I might wire in the outer lights as DRLs instead of indicators. You'll find the winch earth and supply cables will be tight but I managed to reshape mine and get them in place.

    Official Toyota Bullbar

Cool, always nice to know there's other 70's out there. Fitting wasn't too bad, loads of stuff has to come off the car before you expose the chassis rails. If you have a factory winch , it's heavy as and you need to remove the locating pins on its feet to allow it to bolt on the AFN. I re used...

Cool, Paul was spot on to deal with at West Coast. Managed to find a couple of pre drilled holes that the winch socket mounted straight onto so happy days. Fog lights on the cruiser were HB4 and the new ones are H8 so I've found adapter harnesses on Amazon.
