Who is doing what maintenance today?

With MOT coming up next month thought better try and restore the headlight lenses as they looked a bit milky. Bought AutoGlym restore kit which provides all the abrasive discs (800,1200,1500,2000, 3000 and buffing) plus cleaning Compound. £27 or cost of 2 new lens. Worth it I think

    ‘94 Landcruiser mystery

Is it a bit like cracking an egg into the radiator for a leak i.e. It'll get you home but expect to replace some components/parts
  12. Mick W

    ‘94 Landcruiser mystery

@Shayne yes had the same on a bike from leakage around the cap. At least its easier to see into and access a bike tank. We'll, it is on my old thing!

    80 Interest growing!

But when it's freezing cold outside and your getting twitchy you can always go into the garage, warm, radio, beer or coffee and fettle with a motorbike although if I had a garage like all the American houses have I'd have the cruiser and bike inside!

    Installing aftermarket water temp gauge?

What would you gain from a temp gauge that the factory gauge wouldn't tell you other than a more accurate reading. If the engine overheats you'll know it. I guess if your towing etc. then the temperature varies but otherwise the reading should always stay stable. I thought about a gauge but...

    Engine Oil levels on dipstick

Tried wiping the dipstick but oil must get into the pipe further down. When reading the level it's hard to distinguish the actual level on the stick. Will try and take a photo at the weekend, just don't want to add too much.

    Engine Oil levels on dipstick

Cheers. Never get a clear reading on the stick but occasionally get a flash from the ‘low level’ indicator so think I’ll add a little and see.

VED rates, new Highway Code rules, victim status for cyclists.....

@Grimbo I am a Lycra wearer (not one of the louts) but agree there are some real nobs on the rural roads. We have cycling club events round our way and they'll ride the full width of the road even with vehicles coming the opposite way. I run as well with flashing lights front and rear plus a...

    Toyota diagnostic wire part 09843-18040

If its this gearbox (A750E/F 5 Speed Automatic Transmission) then its 'sealed for life' hence no dipstick for checking the level. Ultimately even without the test wires its the same as older boxes where you remove the 'refill plug' where some oil should leak out and if not then top up I believe.

    Engine Oil levels on dipstick

Anyone know the difference in oil level between the top and bottom marker on the engine oil dipstick for a 90 series 1KZ-TE 3.0L (Auto)? The Toyota hand book doesn't say. TIA

    Krown U.K. Rustproofing

@Shayne on the Krown website for T40 removal it says use soapy water for skin contamination. I still have some staining on my drive that hasn't disappeared yet but still happy with the result. Strangely the recommendation for clearing up is water (the one thing it protects against)! Krown...

    Delay in volt reading ???

I had exactly this couple years ago on an old 53 plate Audi A4. With all the electrics off and car locked yo could hear a constant low hum. It turned out to be the pollen filter air intake had a shorted circuit, relay and override switch fitted and all was good afterwards.

    Repairing a vandalised ignition barrel.

I Stand corrected TonyP it does mention a key in the article. Puzzles me then why so many rely on technology, guess the plastic backup key is too heavy and bulky to carry round!? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-59357306

    Repairing a vandalised ignition barrel.

I must admit having a little chuckle to myself last week when the Tesla App failed and no-one could get into their car let alone drive anywhere, I looked at my worn out ignition key and thought 'yep, they had no backup plan'!

    Repairing a vandalised ignition barrel.

Sorry to hear this Andy. Strangely when I was at Krown yesterday reading old classic car magazines there was a lot of stories of older motors being more likely to get stolen and vandalised than newer/later models. Hope you get it sorted, at least they didn't have it away.

    Rustproofing, updating methods and products.

So I got over to Rob at Krown yesterday. Took just under 4 hours to do all the cavities and underside removing all access panels, lights etc. The rust is scored from 0-3 (0 being like new and 3 being severe rust). My Collie is a 99 FX so am happy to have received a score of 1.3 it would have...
