Imagine you hate to see it go, but...Cha ching! That'll buy a few shiny bits and pieces Ben. Every job site I'm on, I get asked now, what engine is in that?? You'll have it rolling before too long.
Hi everyone, I'm eventually getting around to replacing the clutch on my 1UZFE powered LJ70 with R151F gearbox. I think it has the dreaded dual mass flywheel, but I haven't taken it apart yet. It shudders a bit on release, and increasingly slips under any kind of heavy throttle from 3rd on up. A...
Here's the group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/70serieslandcruiserowners/?hc_ref=SEARCH hopefully they can tell you everything you want to know. Cheers
With that low of kms I wouldn't think much could be wrong. A little rust isn't a big deal really, but would need to be treated to prevent spreading. The starter motor on those is very hard to replace, but that's all I can think of myself. I'd go on facebook and ask the landcruiser 70 australia...
I'm having trouble finding a remanufactured steering box for my LJ70 RHD UK model. Does anyone know if ones from any other models will fit? I see a 94 Prado one looks very similar if not identical, based solely on photos (e.g. guessing!)
I've sent three contact emails out to steering specialist...
Incredible amount of effort Ben, well done. I'm still trying to get the time to replace seals on my front axle! Though I want to drop the entire front axle and pull it out to clean and replace stuff, I might have to settle for a wire brush and some hammerite while it's in place. Good job again...
Yeah I figured someone here has had a similar situation. I definitely don't want to get arrested (who does, right?). Glad it worked out for you in the end, and if all else fails, at least I know it can be done in an emergency! (good idea with the wheelie bin). I hope I don't get in this...
Thank you Clive, lots of good ideas there. I was thinking if I rang the police more than about two or three times (would only take a week or less) they'd have a word with the council as well. I just need to get the ball rolling and contact them myself. I didn't want to make a fuss, and shifting...
I may do that if other measures fail. Our local paper loves stuff like this! They're often struggling for news other than the school sports results, part of the reason I like it here, generally very quiet!
Yes it's normally always someone different, that's the thing. Most of the locals know now a grumpy guy in a loud 4x4 lives back the alley and don't park in front :eusa-naughty:
That's what I need really! No clamping in Scotland, though that's fine with me too. I'd have to get permission from the shop in front, but they would probably be fine with it as they park back here sometimes too.
Ah right, so I can ring them to leave, but not to return, I've heard something similar elsewhere I think. THere have been a few times I was taking our little one to the doctors and someone was parked up, but fortunately had pulled away just as we were leaving. I don't think a lot of people...
chadr - Yep, not worth a scratch on the LJ to bother with shoving cars, unless it's a proper emergency. Like the sheriff said in Smokey & the Bandit 'You can think about it, but don't do it' :icon-biggrin:
Some better signs are badly needed.
Rob - that's interesting to know, I'll ask down at the...
From what I've read online, it's pretty common issue with parking problems. Sorry to hear the neighbors turned angry at each other, I'm really trying to avoid that situation, but it can happen quickly I guess. We really want to stay here. I'd park out in the town, but my insurance requires I...
That sounds about right - I like your wording! If there is a fire, there is very little access back here. It's a really cool place to live, right on the sea (which is why I love it here) so the only other option for fire services is to drive along the seafront (restricted access). Likewise, it...
Yeah I'm hoping the council will at least put up better signs. I don't know why they have it double yellow instead of white line, it has a dropped curb, but the alleyway also serves a council building next door, though they rarely drive anything back there.
So the council might charge me to...
Hi all, just venting some anger here with a serious question over UK parking and traffic laws. First of all, our house is located at the end of a narrow alleyway in a small Scottish town. We're getting blocked in by cars almost once a day now, if not twice, and it gets worse in summer when...
+1 on the diesel. If you need a stringer/second photographer, let me know. I used to shoot news frequently and was a mechanic for 10+years, love to travel. Good luck whatever you get, I'm a bit jealous at the 70s market overseas. Still a bit surprised Toyota doesn't import the new 70s here in...
Hey Ben, sorry to bother, when you get a mo, just wondering what oil sump is under your 1UZFE? Want to replace my 'frankensump' with a proper one. Mine was LS400, don't know why they butchered the sump, seems like plenty of room. Cheers, R
You reckon? Even if it needs work, which it will need, still seems like a good price. I bought my fully restored LJ70 for a lot less than all the previous work cost because it had engine management gremlins which turned out to be basically a missing O2 sensor, crusty dizzy caps and rotors and a...
I have an LJ70, but if I had the money I'd have a look at this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Land-Cruiser-BJ42-LX-1984-/182445541598?hash=item2a7a9a08de:g:cakAAOSw4DJYl4Li
If anyone on here buys it or looks at it, let me know!
Cheers
As a new father, I can confirm the LWB is the better option for family stuff. I'd have bought a 78 if the turn into our alleyway wasn't so tight. I'm looking at troopys in AU, dreaming, but maybe someday.
Haven't been on the page in some time. Looking good man! You're getting close and all that attention to detail will pay off, meaning more time driving, etc. and less time fixing bugs once it's up and running. Nice!
I haven't removed mine but when I was a mechanic I've taken loads out on different vehicles. The main thing is not to damage any plastic fittings that might be attached as they get brittle from heatsoak over the years. Undoing the pipes for the cooler may require extra care not to twist the...
This might get you closer - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/o-s-f-wheel-arch-right-rear-lj70-lj-71-toyota-landcruiser-breaking-parts-/322395075077?hash=item4b103e7205:g:HAIAAOSwCGVX4TbW
I think there might be one on ebay, a breakers called essexvan. The LJ looks pretty knackered though, was going to get some door cards but they were shot. G'luck
Ah that's very interesting. Nothing like practical knowledge. They say an army marches on its stomach, guess you can add fuel to that as well! That is a LOT of fuel actually.
I'm in NE Scotland not too far from Cairngorms and some of the highest roads in the UK. When it snows I'm always trying to get the time to run up the Lecht (630m) or the A93 at Glenshee Ski Centre (over 600m) or a single track above Ben Lawers next to Tarmachan Ridge (580m). There are other...
