    Bolt Hamber rustproofing

So it’s time to tackle the underside rust now that it’s been steam cleaned. I don’t have a hoist so will have to buy a pair of ramps and then drive up rear and then front and crawl under suitably clad. I have some Aqua Steel so plan is to coat chassis members with that to convert existing rust...

    2 stroke in the tank

So mixed views on here for 120 - pretty consistent for the older design engines. It sounds though as if 2T and Millers won’t do any harm so I’ll run it until I’ve used what I’ve bought and take a view then. I am a bit puzzled though by the thought of only using super premium diesel and not big...

    2 stroke in the tank

Thanks. In for a penny etc... so have ordered some Millers stuff to try as well. How much do you put into a full tank of diesel in your 120?

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Well, new sensor from Roughtrax now fitted. In the end decided to get my garage to do it. Just as well! The mechanic got the rounded Allen key bolt out ok using Grimbo’s method of hammering in a torx bit then using an impact wrench on that. However once the bolt was out he couldn’t get the...

    2 stroke in the tank

Thanks for all these contributions. I’ve ordered 5L of Coma 2 stroke ( it gets really good reviews on Amazon from those adding it to diesel) and will report back once I’ve used that lot up- should do 10 tankfuls at least. Adrian

    2 stroke in the tank

Thanks for that. Looking around there seems to be a wide variety of 2 stroke from cheap chain saw stuff to semi and synthetic stuff for motorbikes and a big difference in price! What sort of stuff have you been using? Adrian

Thanks Clive. I’ll give it a go then for a while and report back. Adrian

    2 stroke in the tank

Evening. Seen some older threads on here about adding 500ml of 2 stroke oil to a full tank- reportedly making engine quieter and smoother. So wondering what the current view is on this , who’s doing it , whether it it is likely to be beneficial or detrimental to the injectors etc, and which 2...

Is this an oem coil spring?

Thanks. Hard to count the coils on your back underneath but think it’s 6. Here are the photos

Is this an oem coil spring?

Still finding the rear suspension v firm and not smooth. Changed the shocks (oem) and the drop links and trailing arms and most bushes. Still wondering if I’ve got toyotspeings or some updated after market though from previous owner. I have 6 coils in each rear spring. At back of my mind is that...

Permanently live 12v socket in boot?

Here is a photo of the plug behind the jack cover in the boot. Am Itight in thinking the thick red wire is likely to be the permanent live? Can’t find mymuktimetoat mine!

Permanently live 12v socket in boot?

Steve, I’ve got a 13 pin Towbar socket( was twin 7 but I required it for convenience). The new 12v socket is for a fridge in the boot and I won’t otherwise have a load on the permanent live of the 13 pin. However the wiring at the 13 pin itself is now all neatly sealed up and I don’t...

Permanently live 12v socket in boot?

I would like to install the above in the boot area in addition to the existing ignition switched 12v socket. Obviously I could run some suitable fused cabling all the way back to one of the batteries. Wondering however if there is a suitable feed already in the jack area that the Towbar uses...

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Picked up a replacement bolt for the front abs sensor from a Toyo dealer I was passing today. Had to be ordered. Issue is that it is not an Allen headed bolt that takes a 5mm hex bit like the existing one but a flanged hex bolt that takes a 5mm socket. Just rang the parts chap there and he said...

    Tyre Pressures- Again!

Of or these thoughts. I suspected it was a combination of new treads and stiffer AT tyres. So I will keep experimenting between 32 and 40 psi! Have a couple of hours drive home today- no motorways- so will try at 35. Thanks

    Tyre Pressures- Again!

Away at the moment with the LC4. Experimenting with tyre pressures as recently changed the Grandtrek for Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S in the 70 rather than 65 profile. Struggling to find the sweet spot for the tyres fir a comfortable ride- at moment it’s a bit jumpy and harsh at the rear. 87K...

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

All great suggestions as usual! I can’t do anything for about 10 days so will ponder whether to have a go then or book it into the garage. Will give me time to order a replacement bolt from Mr T anyway. Will report back. Thanks

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Thanks Grimbo. Will be another 10 days or so before I will be able to give that a go. Will report back. I’ve got over the “It’s got to go “ stage now and thinking more rationally about the cost of a replacement vehicle compared to the maintenance costs / low depreciation of the LCs.!

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Thanks Karl. Common sense was telling me it ought to be a 5mm rather than an impossible to find 4.5. So just went under and had a really good look with an inspection lamp. Someone has rounded it good and proper! So pretty fed up with the one careful previous owner malarkey given that the rear...

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Anyone suggest the best tool for taking out the Allen key bolt that holds the front L abs sensor on. I’ve tried all of my many Allen keys and and socket hex bits. But 4mm too small and 5mm too big. That suggests 4.5mm. But can’t seem to find any hex bits that size. All I can come up with is a...

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Thanks for that. That’s pretty much what I supposed. The Roughtrax sensor is described by them as superb quality. The aftermarket stuff I’ve had from them in the past has been top notch which was why I ordered from them. So stick with what I’ve ordered. I

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Well, I’ve ordered an aftermarket one from Roughtrax - £50. However I’ve just noticed that the Milner Off-road one is only £18. Wondering why such a difference in price ? I could get a new harness for it as well from Milner and still have some change! Any thoughts as I can always send the...

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Thanks Karl. If it only one bolt I wonder if it’s worth spraying the bolt area with plus gas and having a go at it myself rather than pay £50 to the garage in labour Just checked and front L abs sensor ( aftermarket) from Roughyrax about £50. Suppose no point in removing it and just cleaning...

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Intermittent fault continues. Once done a few miles the warning lights go out. So hit a local garage I know to do a diagnostic today - not much money unlike Mr Toyo. The error it threw up was the front left speed sensor. What and where is that? Is that the same as an abs sensor? Either way where...

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Thanks Karl. No, the engine check light doesn’t come on just abs and the various VSC lights. I’m in Wells Somerset.

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Thanks fir this - I’ll have to get the diagnostic done somewhere. I had the impression though that most independent garages couldn’t read Toyota. What is puzzling is that the lights come in sometimes on initial start up after standing. Once I stop after a few miles and restart then all is well...

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Thanks for this. Tyre pressures all the same. Have been experimenting with different pressures fir the new Cooper Discover AT3 4S in order to find most comfortable. But I’ve been keeping all 4 tyres at same pressure so that’s not likely to be the issue. MrT a good 45 mins away so it may be a...

VSC and ABS warning light won’t go out- intermittently

Can anyone help? Occasionally when starting up after a while some warning lights won’t go off. They are the VSC lights ( so also light showing VSC off) and ABS light. The lights stay on but then when I stop after a while and restart after a delay then all fine. Happened a few times now and can’t...

Front and rear parking sensors stopped working

Front and rear parking sensors stopped working

Good sense Tractionman but I still find them a boon- and more useful than the camera except when coupling up. The trouble with all technology is that you do get to rely on it. My wife’s Golf is a lovely car but it sometimes strikes me how I take for granted it’s radar cruise , auto braking and...

Front and rear parking sensors stopped working

No help I’m afraid. But if you can’t sort it then I can recommend KK moon sensors from Amazon. I thought that fir £13 or so they couldn’t be much good but they have been in my campervan now fir a while and also in the LC. V good reviews on Amazon. I wouldn’t be without the rear sensors so...

    Recommendations for new tyres

Well, 4 new Cooper AT3 4S 265x70 fitted today. So will let you know how I get on with them. From Blackcircle. Fitted, alignment checked and one good redundant Dunlop carcass fitted in place of the iffy tyre on spare wheel. £528 all in which I thought pretty good.

    Recommendations for new tyres

Well, prices seem to change as soon as you blink but the Cooper AT3 4S are holding steady at £508 inc balancing , cutting , disposal etc fir 4 of the 70 profile. The 70 Geolanders 015 are going to be c £40 more so I’ve decided to go for the Cooper. Just hope the 70 profile is not going to rub!

    Recommendations for new tyres

Well, I’ve narrowed it down to Geolander 015 on 65 profile or -£20 more fir 4 fitted- Cooper AT3 4S on 70 profile. Looking at my sidewalls today, decided I’d better get on with this. So any views as to which of these to choose ?

    Recommendations for new tyres

See that Blackcircle doing the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S for £127 each fitted. That strikes me as a good price and they get v good reviews. At money that’s better price than Geolanders. That’s for the 70 profile. Those who have the At3s, are you running 65s or 70s on the 120 and are you getting...
