40 Series purchase…what am I looking out for?

Might be worth having a look at for sale at www.megastore4x4.pt
They are 40 parts specialist based near Lisbon.
They speak English.
They have restorables and restored 40s

Regards,

Rodger

Thanks.

I’ve found a decent looking few in Italy, problem is I can’t go anywhere due to Zero

@GeekOKent . Thanks, looks good but a long way to go and view! I think I’m pretty set on a BJ40 or 42 but an old Troopy might work. There was one sold through Bonhams when I bought my 78, was a US restored car, sold for about £25k I think

I don't think it is too hard, most people mainly use 60 series PAS parts, with mine I actually did it with Hilux parts. (also when I say mine, I did not do it personally, I paid an engineer to do it but I think it is quite easy if you know what you are doing). one issue dependent on engine is the pump and mount, but what engine are you looking at? I am sure there are a lot of ways to do it on IH8 mud, look at FAQ on 40 series, What is your budget for this 40 series? what preferences do you have?

We have used our 40 as a DD for the past 15-16 years but be aware in a 40 you are not going to get anywhere quickly but you are going to get back.

I have attached the production information for the models you mention so you get a view of the differences - engine /body/etc - and the years. Parts are far more available than they were twenty odd years ago, when we bought ours, and there is a load more information available. Some models are rare and the UK officially imported 1500 FJ45 pick ups (for farmers) and 1 40
I am happy to point out the problem areas, etc, but am not back home until next Wednesday.

Rodger

Hi,

It looks very good. It looks like it has had a body off restoration. Powder coated chassis, pedals align, no heater but aircon instead. (very few Oz trucks had heaters).
Get the owner to put one of the Oz style external sun visors on it (2nd truck from right in photo) (they do a square end one too) and send it over!

Sorry for the short reply before but had loads going on. The tent is great, good head room, easy to erect and attach to the truck and secure, as a tent can be, when we leave it. Folds up to be very small too.

Rodger
