HI, a friend of a friend is contemplating parting with his 80 Series 1994 Land Cruiser 4.2TD Manual which has a genuine 60K miles with Full Toyota service history, this is a older chaps car and has never been offroad in its life! This has been garaged from new and is 1 owner (same chap) I have seen the vehicle panels all straight ect with no rust.

I have briefly seen inside the vehicle and all the beige leather is untouched and it looks very very tidy, I would say near mint.

What are the weak points on these models? Is there anything to look for when viewing? What sort of a price would the main agent offer in PX for this?

Main agent won't offer much, its a 'specialist vehicle'. And its 20 years old.

Is it/has it been long term parked up?

Check all the fluids and the front axle for leaks, FTSH depends on the garage, may mean its been pretty much untouched except for basic stuff.

Sounds interesting.

I think it was a weekend car for towing a caravan other than that I believe its also been used as a daily runner.

I'm thinking the year may be wrong. You sure it's not a 24v manual? Will be the first leather manual Ive come across on a 1994

The bit of towing is a good thing, it bad for an engine to only do short runs and not get up to temperature to get properly lubricated.

Its been indoors so can't really be too rusty but still worth having a good look, at 60k there can't really be a whole lot wrong if its done periodic decent length runs and not just trips to the shops.

Does the seller have a price in mind or are they just putting out feelers?

The weak point are the big end bearings, having said that don't panic, a job you can easily do yourself on your drive for around 250 to 300 squid, if I had the chance I'd be buying it without a second thought

Are you thinking of buying it for yourself? I'd be interested if your not wanting it depending on the price

I think they are just putting out the feelers but looking to possibly make a hassle free offer close to a PX rate! What is the PX value on one of these?

Drain oil. Take sump off undo con rod caps, take old shells out replace shells with nice new set of ACL bearings brought from Karl webster a forum member on here:icon-biggrin: Replace con rod bolts with new and torque them to correct settings. Re fit sump, add oil and finished:thumbup:

I think 80's are overrated. 20 year old car? It's worth next to nothing for sure and as a big favour I'll pass by and take it off his hands... no charge :laughing-rolling:
