Is this the same case with all reman parts like alternators, power steering pumps, etc?
For now, I'll get the one in SA. On my return to the USA, I'll make sure my old one measures up to the new ones available there so I can be sure it'll fit without any worries, and then replace it with something new.

Don't know about PS pumps but Dave is right on the AC compressors. Safest is new of known origin like the Sanden one I got from EBay. Alternators and starter motors are generally different in that the gubbins that forms the bulk of the weight gets reused (the stators, rotors and casing) and the windings, com/slip rings and regulator/diodes get replaced. That way you get a reliable unit.
