ABS sensor buzz - maybe

Hi all. I've asked this question (or similar) a few times in many places and never had a response - so I'm trying again. You never know when someone "just had that conversation and blah blah".

For quite some time now I've been getting an odd little squeaky buzz sound from around my right knee. It started off very rarely (a couple of years ago) but has been gathering pace over time. I can pretty much expect it most journeys now so I have to try and resolve this again.

It's usually just after braking but not consistently at all. Sometimes during braking and sometimes when I'm about to - how does i know?

It could go weeks without a buzz - and then chat away a few times in a trip.

The best I can come up with is the hint of an ABS buzzer behind the little panel (that I can see on the parts diagrams - 86652A).

So, firstly, can anyone confirm that the buzzer is there and that it's buzz is indeed something to do with the ABS system?

And of course more importantly, WHAT IS IT TELLING ME???

Just had a look at the cost of genuine ABS sensors.... £150 each on RoughTrax... so getting 4 "just to see" isn't an option. I suppose I could "just see" with two (they're the same front and back) but that's still a lot.

Anyone got an opinion on this before I make expensive mistakes? :confusion-shrug:

I have never heard tell of an audio abs alarm and if there were such a thing I would expect a dash light to coincide ?

Vibration is my guess , something is loose and rattling .

Yeah I thought it odd too - but the parts diagram does say buzzer assy. :confusion-shrug:

No dash lights at all - and deinately not a mechanical rattle or squaek. It's a clear squeaky buzz. I'd almost say it sounds like a tiny air powered buzzer, as in very weak and sometimes squeaky - but it's obviously not. Pretty sure it's trying to me something but I'm stumped as to what.

For context, it lasts for a second or less every time. A definate on and off - although the off is sometimes a bit drawn out and... squeaky.

That's a lot like when I used to turn the stereo up to fix noises
