All,
I removed the ACSD from my 1 HDT equiped 80 series.
After research, apparently the ACSD could cause some serious issues to include destruction of the IP. It was a fiddly job with tight spaces and small parts. I used the delete kit from Back40 imports. I also purchased some new SS hex bolts (M6x12) from a local hardware store for the delete plate and they fit perfectly.

I did this on mine probably 12 years ago? The engine is direct injection so glow plugs are not needed, but they are fitted anyway, Toyota were definitely making sure these engines start!

Regards

Dave

I also did this mod some years ago after the ACSD developed a diesel leak. I fixed the leak with a new O ring but didn't refit it after ascertaining that the IP timing did not require any adjustment with it removed as all it does is advance the timing slightly when cold apparently. The engine still fires easily on the coldest mornings and I just use the hand throttle below the dash to raise the tickover slightly until warm.

Not sure if adjustment is needed as I did this delete in the heat of the summer. Over 90F in the garage at the time. I will surely find out as cooler and colder weather approaches.

You may find the idle speed on cold starts is lower than normal. The ACSD advances the pump timing slightly to improve fuel burn on cold starts and also opens the throttle just enough to give a high idle rpm. I remember reading somewhere that the instances of the ACSD failing and damaging the IP are due to the locating pin breaking off and falling into the pump mechanism.

I have the hand throttle lever which could be used to help. I will report back what happens……probably in January.

I had the ACSD removed on my HDJ80 due to an air leak allowing fuel to drain back to the tank, preventing a start when parked uphill.

After removal it started in London's winter (-3C) but was certainly a bit lumpy at 4-500 rpm and required a bit of throttle or hand idle to bring up to smooth. No big deal, but I'm not sure I'd trust it in colder climates as of course that's harder on the batteries, starter etc, so I had a new ACSD refitted, and now it is back to normal.

Great thread,

It's got me thinking, my 100 series with a 1hdt has ACSD fitted and I'm in Harare Zimbabwe so I can't see any down side to removing it.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get a delete kit from preferably in the UK.

I've had enough of importing from OZ for a little while bloody DHL and HMRC..

When the issue of scored internals on the IP occurs is when the pin on the lever of the AC/DC becomes worn or loose and this loose item will result in a knackered unit..

It is indeed very easy to fabricate a cover to replace the ACSD but also you need the right length of allen key bolts to fix it on.

If the bolts are too long then they will jam against the rotating drum on the inside and if too short it will strip the threads of attachment.

Tell me about it! Did a purchase from Germany for £211.00 all in and got an import cost of plus £252.50 for something that you didn't have to pay before!

Absolute disgrace and a complete rip off as this was for an item that wasn't available in the UK! Still pissed about this! Grrr

I know, it's totally random too so you never know what you'll be stung with..

Found this on Ih8mud, may get some laser cut when I'm back in the UK. Anyone else interested?

I think the blanking plate is used on numerous types/makes of pump. I got one FOC from a local diesel specialist. I took in a photo of the blanking plate and he had a box full of them.
