Brake Booster Problem!

where's the vac pump on an 80 series? Surely the intake manifold on a 6 cylinder can produce enough vacuum as well? I cant even open the air-filter when the engine is running!

80 diesel vac pump lower front of engine, left side, petrol only vac from inlet manifold, diesel have a resovoir on inner left wing.

Diesels without a butterfly in the manifold the vacuum is insufficient, plus it would be pressurised from the turbo.

Thinking about it, I have never tried removing the filter cover with the engine running, but the turbo is spinning at idle so definitely a negative signal, of course then to positive post turbo.

Mine is in bits at the moment so cannot check but, a blocked air filter would increase the difficulty in removing the lid.

Dave

i never noticed it before but will have to look for the little fecker for future ref. I recently tested the vac level and it pulled full vac at the end of the booster hose. Anyone else care to try and open tje air filter lid with the engine ticking over..

Yes DOT5 is the one not mixable with the others. I have the 5.1 in my 80.
