I need to get something fromToyota GB to say my 80 was supplied with a diesel engine, because the V5 says petrol, and I would like it corrected before possible sale. According to their website a Cof C is only available for vehicles after 1996. So what can I do?

Does the VIN plate not state engine type ? if so shouldn't that be enough .... how on earth did it get registered with the wrong fuel type years ago and it not be picked up ?
Could be a bonus on the other hand....if the DVLA have it down as a petrol it's ULEZ exempt !! so your reg wouldn't ping the corrupt mayors cameras .

They want either something from the garage that did the conversion! Or if I bought it like it, proof of purchase and a letter from an independant engineer to say it has been converted, or a letter from the manufacturer, therefore I considering a C of C. Dont know why it says petrol, as always taxed as diesel, and the MOT database says diesel, and always tested as diesel. I guess there is more than one database?

The MOT and tax data is also held by DVSA so how on earth can it be tested and taxed as a diesel if they have it recorded as a petrol? It sounds like a simple typo on the paper V5 IMO.

Tell dvla you lost the V5 and see what they send , If it comes back as petrol at least you have a current issue to be dealt with rather than a historic one .

I hate paperwork for the sake of it , its all Gov creating jobs that nobody needs to do , in the companies registry office once filling out forms and paying my fees when I realized nothing in their documentation actually states that I own all shares . Ultimately it was agreed that I could alter official records to my liking because nobody ever checks anything anyway . They were actually impressed how i pretty much forged it

Perhaps you could offer up something similar blank sheet of paper over a letter keeping the Toyota header - print . Then on same piece of paper print info from say partsouq or amayama .

I’ll have a word withToyota GB after the holidays and see if they can offer anything. If not, it will be a cut and paste jobby with an official looking header.
