Can overfilling Diff fluids damage anything

The specific Toyota stuff is this 1 Litre Genuine Toyota Differential LT 75w/85 Oil - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]

200 has non-reusable crush washers on the filler plug. My bet is they didn't have those and didn't use them. I'd just get a couple (same front and back), take off the filler plug. Change the washer. Ideally someone can find you the torque settings. This says 49Nm on the back and 39Nm on the front. Seems odd to me the back is 10Nm more.

Thank you Rob, I will pick ‘em up. Also ordered a electric oil transfer pump.
Few months ago I purchased Autofix service manual for 200 and it has exact torque specs. I also printed diff job pages from it and gave. I told em job to be done perfectly n not to bother about saving my money by re using things like washers.
They got the message wrong .

Looks good Raj, I wonder how that will work with thicker gear oil if that's what you're going to use it for?

Always handy to have a little (light!) 12v battery around, or you could power it from a jump starter if you have one of those!

Agree. I lifted the truck few times. It’s ok for small jobs like cleaning, simple oil change but for more serious tasks we need another pair of hands. There is this fear that kid might come around n hit the Jack if I am outside for too long

I will try. I saw in Project 200 video. He used this pump for diffs, transmission and transfer box. He changes them 50000 kms If I remember. so hopefully it ll work

Use the axle stands you bought Raj, you should never just rely on the jack.
Kids can tow the jack away with their bikes then and it won't matter, (unless you don't get it back)

I find the ramps a lot quicker than jacking it up for most jobs

I get the car on those ramps I have, then keep jack n axle stands also but it’s just irrational fear. Mainly coz I am not used to this n don’t have any estimates.
On top of that my kid just takes something n starts banging on the car to help me . You all might ve passed through this stage already

Have to agree with Karl Raj, especially if you have 4, you can go where you like under it then.
Taking wheels off you have no choice, jack and axle stands.
Don't worry, as long as all your gear is well within the weights quoted for it, you are safe.
The only thing to be rightly wary of, and is a risk, is getting under your lc on a jack only. No, no.

If kids are a nuisance, tie them up in the shed !

I tried a test today with 75/90 gear oil using a very similar pump I had on the shelf. (Looks exactly the same, I think it was £10-15 from LIDL, never used it before)

It worked OK but was a bit slow. Not sure how it would stand up to pumping large amounts, but would probably be OK giving the pump a rest in between diffs. I'd be happy to use it but would make sure there is a manual pump available as a backup option too, just in case!

I use a pump up plant sprayer type thing, without the spray head attached, just the hose

Raj, This may have been said already and I don’t know the 200, but different specialised oil required if you have limited slip diff at the rear.

If the drain plug is leaking after the oil service I’d suggest taking it back and have them correct it at their cost. That is a workshop screw up, nothing else.
As said before it’s almost impossible to over fill the diff as the filling hole is also the level, ie when you fill up and it pours out it’s full.
It’s also worthwhile having them, or you checking the breather isn’t choked so as the oil warms the pressure is able to vent off

As for finding glitter when you drain it, a small amount is nothing to worry about, and at 50k unlikely. My truck was run by its PO for several years with a heavy oil leak from the hub as his mechanic didn’t undersatand there was a seal on the halfshaft, consequently there was a huge amount of wear on the crown wheel and pinion, I adjusted the bearing preloads to within spec and it’s still running a treat with no noise or excessive play anymore. Tough as nails even with years of neglect!

Thank you. You saved me from the dealer today. For the 75w85 oil you linked, Toyota dealer quoted 42.80£ per litre. If I didn't see this link and price from RoughTrax, I would ve got it from Mr.T. I asked them if they have washers, and they said no as these oils are for life and they won't change them. This is 4th time Toyota dealer not being helpful at all .

I asked my old mechanic if he can guide/help for changing diff oil and he is ok with it. He has the big hand pump similar to what Andy mentioned. if my electric pump doesn't work, he will have something in his van to sort it out. He is happy with oils, nuts and bolts but just don't want to get into electrics n computers of this Truck. ,
